I am really stuck on what to get, either the ATI Radeon HD 5870 or the Nvidia Geforce GTX 480.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SlEA8E9NomM ^^ The 5870 Triumphs ^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XdsEblVhkc&feature=channel ^^ The 480 Triumphs ^^ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yx69O-HY9DI&feature=channel ^^ The 480 Got Owned By the 5870 ^^ It seems like the 480 owns the 5870 in tessellation. BUT a quick fix is to turn the tessellation down. The 480 is also power hungry, while the 5870 isn't. Post on. |

What resolution are you sporting? I'd say 1680 x 1050 and lower, go with the 5870. 1080 and above, go with the 480.

That third video shows the 480 beating the 5870 in 2 out of the 3 benchmarks, and barely losing in the third, unless I'm missing something?
And why post Youtube videos for just 1 game and 2 benchmark programs? Why not just post up benchmark compilations for a large number of games to get a better average comparison? Also, improved drivers have been released for the 400 series. |

It seems to me that from all of the reviews, the 5870 is far better when it comes to scenery, and the 480 when it comes to textures. I think i may go with the 5870, but you said that the 480 has updated drivers, so I'm not sure.
EDIT: I will be gaming at 1900x1200 (or closest to) Edited by AustinHiggs - 12 Jun 2010 at 6:32am |

The 480 may be more power consuming but it has alot of amazing reviews. Alot of people on the forums who have bought it have loved it and it is certainly a great card. I don't know where these reviews are from but the 480 is certainly better than projected.

be careful about the reviews you watch, look for an nvidia or ati logo and see who its from, everyone loves a little exaggeration
ps i didnt watch the links, im at work, but as a general statement, you are better off comparing the data from 10+ different reviews from different sources before using them to make a decision
that said, id go for the 480

Whats the difference between the 5780 and the Vapor-x Version? I have found a review, but is it worth it?

Bullseye, I like the sig, and the only difference between them is slightly upgraded cooling, so the regular 5870 would be better.

Lol thanks, so let me get this straight. They are making you pay more for a video card that runs hotter?
