Topic: $5K Budget - Run Games at 60+ FPS Posted: 17 Aug 2011 at 10:13pm |
Budget: $5,000
Expectations: 1. Run games like BF3, SWTOR, ME3, Reckoning, etc. at 60+ FPS on Max Settings at 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 2. Ultra-reliable 3. Look badass 4. Easy to maintain 5. Have the computer by the middle of October Notes: I have a DS computer right now with a 320 120gb SSD. I do like the ssd but I don't necessarily think that I HAVE to have one for os/games. Will having 2x1tb caviar blacks set in raid 1 give me great reliability and decent performance? How does this ticket look? SSD brings a lot to the table as far as os use, gaming and etc, IMHO at your price range you "have to have one", otherwise the performance of your pc will not be balanced, and thus you will not get the most/best your pc can do.
you can raid 20 black caviars together, they still won't match the speeds of one 320. I would not call raid zero "reliable" personally at all, if anything it raises the chances of data loss, tho with raid 1, you are not gaining any speed, but if you loose the raid array you can still lose all data, but if hdd goes bad, you just need to replace it and no data will be lost. personally I just clone my drive twice a week and have nothing to worry about as far as data loss. Here you go Ticket# 587528 --- $4,063 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Black OPS HailStorm Edition Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8P67 Deluxe (Intel P67 Chipset) (New & Improved B3 Revision Without SATA 3G Issue) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1050W Corsair Pro Silver 1050HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: 320 Series) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (64MB Cache) (Model: Black Edition) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 2x SLI Dual (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: ASUS Xonar Essence STX Virtual 7.1 (PCI-Express Slot Based) Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 6: Sub-Zero LCS Dual Loop: CPU & Dual SLI/CrossFire Video Cards H20 Tube Color:Red Tubing with High-Performance Fluid (UV Lighting Reactive) Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (UV) (Creates Glowing Effect for H20 Tubes) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboard) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Professional (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty this build can do sli 570 and few other pci cards at the same time. LC maintenance is pretty simple you just top off when needed (this can vary, maybe once a month, maybe once every 3 months or longer), and then you should flush/clean system once every 3 years if not once a year. If you don't see it in my config, its because you will never notice/need its presence thus pointless. I like to point out that for that price range, you may want to wait for the high end platform that is coming out oct/nov. Edited by DST4ME - 18 Aug 2011 at 1:06am |

What's the best way to setup my system (with regards to the structure) for cloning? For example, could I have:
120gb Intel 320 SSD for os and some games
1tb black caviar for whatever
and then have another, stand-alone 120gb intel 320 ssd in the system to clone the first one? Or what is the best way?
And can you elaborate more on the maintenance of liquid cooling? Is it easy to flush the system and/or top off the liquid? Is it an extensive process that I, as basically a noob, could mess up and ruin parts if I spill liquid or not re-attach stuff correctly? Or is it straight-forward? Does DS have video walkthrus for that kind of stuff?
Oh, last question, how much does the 17" laptop weigh, roughly?
Thanks DST

honestly i would go 1 240GB ssd and a reg HDD to clone to. but DST knows better on that then i do.
For the LC you need to know if its the TEC or the reg as there is a difference. |

TEC does not support 2600k.
Kaleliar is 100% on the money, for cloning you have the source drive and destination drive, source is the original and destination is the clone, your destination clone just has to be big enough to support the size of the source drive, otherwise there is no need to get a ssd for clone, just use an hdd, any hdd, just as long as it has enough room, I clone my 100GB ssd to a 80GB hdd (I have only like 50GB of data on os ssd). topping off is as easy as unscrew top, top off, screw the top shut. yes just like that, unscrew top, top off, screw the top shut. Flushing is easy once you get the hang of it, DS will walk you thru it over the phone, you can quick release valves to ends of the loop to make it easier to drain, its one of those things that you do once and then you don't much mind doing it again, but its little bit of work. Liquid is non conductive so if it spills I won't short anything and the pc is not going to be on based on rule number 1 from above anyways. DS does not have videos for that yet. don't know the weight of laptop. My pleasure |

How's this build look if I go with the Dell u27? Will the video cards be able to support ultra settings with 60+fps at that resolution for 3 years with fps, mmo, etc.?
I would also like to make every fan blue led. Is that possible and what do I need to tell DS? either go u30 or u24/u23, I'm not crazy about the 27", tho its a good monitor.
for the res of u27 sli 570 is good but all games at max and next 3 years, the answer is no for many fps and some mmo. once you go above 1900 x 1200 range you gonna want dual sli with tri sli option, the p67/z68 is not the platform for that. |

Would dual sli 2.5gb 570's be able to max out everything on 1920x1200/1080 for the next 3 years?

NO, there is nothing that will max out everything for the next 3 years, but it will do very very well with most things for the next 3 years. that goes for both versions of 570 IMHO.

Why do you prefer the 23/24/30 over the 27?

I think I am going to go with the u2311h. I have one now and love it. And I've read some bad things about the anti-glare coating on the 27 and 30 which makes me skeptical about buying one, especially given the added cost. Is the ag coating that bad/noticeable?
As far as the computer though, I spec'd out this: 588790 How does that build compare to the ODE 3 as far as price/value? I know the ODE 3 is a great buy, but I would like to have a few extra features. I'm trying to consider if the computer I spec'd is worth $1K more than ODE 3. Thanks DST4ME.

I've only had personal experience with a few anti-glare monitors in the last few years, but the anti-glare coating on my U3011 is as good as or better than any of them. I can't see it unless I have a big enough blindingly white area like opening notepad or something, then you can see the faint graininess or speckling. I've yet to see an anti-glare monitor that this didn't hold true for though, and I don't even notice it anymore these days, not like big blindingly white backgrounds are a big part of my viewing experience. Certainly beats the pants off of a glossy monitor for me, I don't know how people can use those anywhere other than a windowless room with no lights behind or to the side of you, always freaking huge glare spots somewhere on those. |
