Looking for opinions on AMD vs Intel for mostly gaming, light editing work. This would be my 5th system from DS.

Even though you cite "light" editing, it is clear you should opt for an AMD system. Specifically, a 5900X with 12cores/24threads. It is almost identical in price to the Intel 11900K. While only slightly behind in gaming, the vast improvement over any Intel 8 or 10 core in multi-core processing is absolutely a must-have for editing. I would also recommend you try to fit 32GB of RAM into your budget for rendering tasks.
Be selective in not trying to overpower the monitor you use. Pick just the right GPU for the task. At these prices, now is the worst time to go for overkill or the ever popular "future proofing", which in less than a year will seem very silly. ![]() |
