My pc failed stage 6 QA testing yesterday. On monday DS will fix and start retesting my rigg. For about $615 I can have DS inatall another gtx280, watercool it and overclock it. Is the proformance increase enough to spend an extra $615 on? will be using a res of 1920x1200

no, just have them install another gtx 280, no LC no OC.
2 x 280 gtx = can handle what ever you got. so no LC and no OC. |

so $545 is worth it? I have already paid gpu or gpus oced the extra $70 is for watercooling. WC cpu@ 250/WC cpu+gpu@530/WC cpu+2gpu@600 are you sure???

no its not worth it, don't OC the GPUs and don't LC them, you have no need for them, you won't even take full advantage of the 2 cards let along oced ones.
just get the second card and thats it. the OC and LC are pointless over kill for you. |

But the pc is already put together with cpu+gpu watercooling wouldn't it be easier on DS to install father then uninstal WC on gpu and wont future games take full advantage of them. extra power now means more proformance later right? Or am i wrong???

right now there is not a game out that will take full advantage of your 2 x 280 gtx cards.
but if the one you have is already LC then LC the second one too. but OC and LC the two GPUs is pointless at this time. Edited by DST4ME - 18 Oct 2008 at 12:40pm |

I'm not sure what you mean by your remark toward a quad core, I'm not talking about the CPU.
I'm saying that by the time games catchup to your 2 cards its gonna be a few years, you probably be getting a new PC by that time right now 2 gtx 280 cards without OC and LC are more then enough for anything that is out there and soon to come. Edited by DST4ME - 18 Oct 2008 at 12:50pm |

My last pc lasted about 6 years. This only my second pc and would not have been able to buy it if my Grandma wouldn't have left me a trustfund to recieve on my 30th bday when she passed away ten years ago and it might need to last me many years with upgrading

all the more reason not to OC the GPUs
oc them when you need the power, you won't need it for a few years to come. |

DST is very much in the know, but i would disagree about not LC. The fans on the newer cards are fairly loud by anyones estimation when at full speed. And since they run kinda hot, they will get up there while heavy gaming. That annoying high pitched whine irritates me.
I say LC them if financially feasable. LC=Quiet PC
But thats just me, I like quiet.

well if he turns the case fans up a bit, that should help the gpu fans right? thats what I was thinking, but I won't disagree that LC does equal more quiet pc

It should help some, your definately right there. I think on all the new cards, they are using the fans from the last generation of cards. A newer, better one needs to be devised. I have a 9800 GTX OC2, not a 280, but still a good card. Loud ass fan! The 280's look to have the exact same setup.
While there are great replacemnet fans (arctic cooling has some fantastic ones), they can be pricey, and wont allow SLI on some mobos. And, believe it or not, are as cool or cooler than LC as well, and much quieter than stock.
I just like the idea of LC on anything, just like you prefer the HAF over anything
But i like things quiet, so that is my main reason as well.

I can totally understand, I myself am contemplating LC on on triple GPUs but that because I need to OC them for FAH folding.
I'm with you I like things quiet too my only thing is that loudness is a matter of perception, so I don't know what is loud to others. lol wish that was the same for all |

I could have had single loop WC but Chris W said the heat from the cpu and 2gpus would be two much to make much of a difference. He recomend duel loop but it is $800 more wich is too much. But the side fan on the HAF 932 should keep things cool. So how do I turn the cases fan speeds up ?

actually you got 3 big fans
one is behind the HDDs to keep them cool. one is on top blowing air down one is on the side so you can adjust the speed of all 3 and get some serious airflow if you need it. here is what you should do. wait till you get the system, play games to test, check your temps and if they need adjusting, then adjust them, you should be fine with fans at 40% when not playing games, and fans at 70% while playing games. or maybe your system can do with the fan at 60% while playing games, it all depends on what your temps are, and we won't know that till you get your system and play your games to test Chris was correct, if you gonna go LC on GPU, it has to be dual, otherwise it could make thing worst instead of bette. top fan: side fan: front fan (HDD): Edited by DST4ME - 19 Oct 2008 at 3:14am |

oh ya, you still get the other 2 big ones but a small one on top to cool the radiator.
you should have some kind fo xfx control panel or something that will allow you to adjust the fans |

If you ever plan on adding a second card, id recommend you do it later. Im sure DS doesnt like me saying that but yea lol. Adding a second card isnt very hard, even with liquid cooling, though slightly harder obviously.
You might not even need a second card anyways, so id at least try a single card first and that way you can save some cash. And if you feel like you need another one, god bless DS but their prices on some of their GPUs is a little high. You can easily find another GTX 280 of your choosing that has a mail in rebate on newegg, and most the prices for them are now hovering around 370-380 bucks with rebate.

I still think that a Dual Loop LC will make you appreciate your system and give you more room on your own to tweak with it. But that is just a personal opinion, my next project is building a dual loop system for my 260 and CPU. But thats just for my own personal aesthetics and sense of taste. (I think that watercooling inside of a PC is just awesome)
And I will stand behind my recommendation of doing a dual loop system. |

[/QUOTE Yeah but it is a little out of my price range. So I am just have the cpu LCed using single. WIith out having the added heat from the gpu it will cool the cpu more effectively which will give me better OCing and stability.

I with Chris, if anybody is gonna LC their GPUs then it should be dual loop.
but if you don't need to OC your GPUs, then you don't really need to to LC them. |
