I am looking at getting a new computer when the new i7 chips come out. My question is about 64 bit issues with vista. I will be mainly gaming and need something reliable as I have a limited knowledge about computers. I have heard that updates and driver issues are known concerns but I was wondering if that is for gpu's and or games. Is the chip the deciding factor if the system is 32 or 64?
If I get a 32 system now can I just upgrade the windows to 64 later or does it work like that? I realize that it is prob a noob question but without asking how does one get answers.

go with 64bit vista and you will be fine, most people here game on vista 64bit.
the deciding factor is you not the system
If you want to use your total ram that your system offers then you need to use 64bit vista

Thanks dst4me I realize that I can configure anything that I want, but I feel like a kid in a candy shop and want it all ( but have a budget to think about) I also have a question on the i7 chip since I've read that it will not have a fsb. Does that mean that you OC ram differently with it, basically I am wondering if I would need to choose OC'ing the ram with probably getting the 920 chip OC'd with just a single 280 gpu. I would be running a 19 or 20 inch monitor and whatever max res. would be.

Computer peripherals (printers, scanners, etc) require a 64-bit driver in order to operate in a 64-bit operating system. Most older discontinued models won't have these drivers and therefore won't work.
Most 32-bit software will run without a single problem in a 64-bit operating system. But 16-bit or older will not work properly. It is recommended to go with 64-bit operating system these days but you can get a 32-bit and upgrade to 64-bit later (note that this requires a fresh install). Core i7 does not use FSB, it uses QPI. The Core i7 has a base clock of 133 and a multiplier determines the speed of components in the computer. Example: Core i7 920 runs @ 2.66GHz (133 * 20) Example 2: DDR3 ram can run at 1333MHz (133 * 10) Example 3: DDR3 ram can run at 1600MHz (133 * 12) It's confusing -.^ |

Thanks again for the advice, it is very much appreciated. I will come back on monday and see what the new configs will be. Just can't wait till it's my time to finally get my dream pc. DS is a welcome company in a sea of unkowns and brand names. This forum is also a welcome site as I have been to some that treat noobs as idiots and there is little respect for questions that they seem to thinks as common knowledge. Keep the answers coming as I will surely have more questions on my final config. Thanks DST4ME and skyR.
