....and stupid Intel. They think they are generating a ****storm for Nvidia only with this crap, but do not realize apparently that once that pandora's box opens, there is plenty of poo to be flung in all directions.
This is going to hurt Intel.
They will lose Penryn sales as Nvidia 6xx chipset owners wait for the next gen of CPU, ignoring the Penryn entirely, rather than buying a new mobo, only to have to chuck it in another year for a new socket type and DDR3 capability. Additionally, they are going to end up generating alot of ill will towards themselves that I think will last for years beyond the lifespan of the 6xx boards, and may well extend to people that are not affected in the least by any of this.
Yeah, Intel fired a shot at Nvidia alright, and hit themselves in the foot. That's my take anyway.
Idiots, both of them.

Heh.. Even if I was going to buy a new PC already, I wouldn't buy a 780i when they first come out just to get a quad core Penryn. That would really be asking for it..
I wonder if that's their final word?

Well, I'm bummed out regardless. I'm sure I would have popped for a Yorkfield within a year. It's highly unlikely I'll ever get a Wolfdale or get a new mobo for a few years. Guess this pushes my next Intel purchase out to 2010+. Who knows what will be available then.

Apparently you'll be able to do a Evga Step-up to the 700 boards If you're under your 90 days, how will that work with DSO? Void the warranty?
Doesn't seem really worth it if you're content with your current rig or the build you're considering, an upgrade doesn't seem necessary until the Nehalem and correlating MOBO's/DDR3 ram are upon us.
