Budget:
$700.00 Expectations: I'm looking to build a moderate gaming pc that can handle games such as Dota 2, Diablo 3, Battlefield 3, Skyrim and Guild Wars 2 on relatively good settings on a 1920x1080 monitor *EDIT* Also have a 1680x1050 that would work. I am not necessarily needing to use max settings just to play well. Usage: Gaming/work station. I would like advice on a build that would fit this role/budget. Thanks. *EDIT* Also have a 1680x1050 that would work Edited by Relkeb - 22 Feb 2012 at 4:36pm |

The unfortunet thing is you won't find a PC that can play things like Bf3 with good settings at that resolution for only $700. The least expensive system you will find here is the ODE 0, which is not even listed on the front page but is still available.
It will cost just over $1300 including shipping and at you resolution you would be looking at all low settings for games like BF3. It only has a GTX 560 and not even a 560Ti. The 560Ti can not even manage better then low settings at 1920x1080. Even for a DIY build you will not come close to even the ODE 0 for only $700. For your resolution a GTX 570 would allow you to play at medium to high settings and it costs over $300, which is half your budget. Your better off saving some more money as you'll need $1200-$1500 for even an ok low end build. |

Just an FYI.....I recently asked DS if the ODE 0 was still available and told, no longer an option, discontinued. Actually, the gtx 560 does BF3 on all High settings and Skyrim on Ultra settings smooth. BF3 on Ultra is a no- go.

I have to agree with continuing to save money at this point, $700 puts you in that grey area between a standard non-gaming office desktop and low end gaming desktops (especially if you are looking at boutique builders). If you want to build the system itself, its more feasible, but I'd still suggest more saving.

The 560 does not handle BF3 on High settings at 1920x1080. Even the 560Ti does not handle BF3 on High at that resolution. You can see here from digital storm's own testing that the 560Ti can only handle low settings at 1920x1080 and the 560Ti is slightly better then the stock 560.
Benchmark review sites only like to list high or ultra settings so it's nice that DS shows what's needed for low and high settings. For high settings at 1920x1080 you'll need at least a GTX 570 and even then you are really pushing it. My GTX 570 2.5GB still occasionally drops below 60fps and I play at a smaller resolution of 1680x1050. |

I play BF3 on my gtx 560 with a 23" monitor at 1920x1080 with 45 to 52 fps consistantly on High settings. It could be argued that 45 to 52 fps is not smooth by some, but it is. No stuttering or lag. The 570 is better but the 560 is a better card than a lot give it credit for.

Anything below 60fps is considered poor and below 50fps is very poor. I'd also like to know exactly what all the settings are. High model detail or other settings with AA and AF full disabled is not "High" settings. For "High" settings you need at least some amount of AA and AF other wise you are only at Medium to High and not full High settings.

I don't have all the particulars handy, but all settings set to High with aa2 and af16. I actually posted the stats under First Person Shooters......BF3... when it first came out, when DST wanted comparisons. Changing Aa to even 4 made little difference. Is the 570 better....of course....but if someone can only afford the 560 then they will be happy.

Unfortunately, my advice would also be the same as others have mentioned.. just save your money for now and see if you can eventually increase that budget significantly.

I also advise saving for at least the ODE 1 if possible. I think the ODE 3's gaming performance is the sweet spot in gaming per dollar, but some just can't swing the $$$.
