Allright over the past week two people on here have had problems with a computer each with 790i motherboards. Is there an issue with the 790i's? Ive read over the EVGA forums and seen some people with issues on there as well and the new egg reviews of the board are not what you could call stellar. I'm just wondering if this particular board has an issue or alot of glitches. I personally am on the verge of ordering a system with a 790i to take advantage of ddr3 and to futureproof a bit, but I'm getting a bit concerned that this board may have problems. It seems from my reading to only like very high end components, top notch ram etc. If anyone out there is using the 790i I'de appreciate any feedback and I'm sure others on here would as well.
Thanks Bismark |

it's basically about luck if your lucky it will work perfect otherwise it won't but there are some problems that just need drivers to fix.

Mine has been pretty alright.....though I still havent figured out why for a couple days it was freezing like mad whenever id watch videos on the net...that problem went away for the past several days...
Thats really all i can say about it. I suppose i can give you quick tour of all my crashes since ive gotten my computer.
The video hardware and several blue screens afterwards happened after I updated my video drivers and reversed the fans on the top of my case, apparently when doing that I must of bumped the top card out of place a little bit (dunno how). I quick reseat resolved that problem (for the time being). The 4 hard freezes while watching video also happened on the 25th, but are not recorded since the computer completely froze up.
As you can see, gaming as been really easy, no major problems other then a quirk here and there. Ive played several other games as well such as mass effect, bioshock, supreme commander etc...those all havent failed yet. The two witcher crashes were while i was trying to run a 4.1 OC on the CPU, chances are high it was due to the CPU being unstable.
Anything pre June 11th would be DS as thats the day i recieved my computer. Keep in mind as well, ive changed out the memory + two GPU driver updates, added a second card, and played with the fans in the case, and it still has held pretty stable even with all that new hardware shock.

oh, i forgot to add, the Symantec is my anti virus, for some reason my intrusion protection keeps shutting down on computer start up randomly, but fairly often as you can see.... All that requires is that i hit the button Fix and I guess its fixed and turned back on...i dunno what the deal is with that, but i assume its not the mobo. |

Nah, there is no need, most those errors are pretty common and they are fairly rare. Just little quirks in the system, almost all of them dont even do anything to the computer they just say oh this had an error sorry lol.

Digging up this thread after my problems with this board have been fixed. My first 790i was a mess - couldn't get it stable at any settings. After an RMA and a replacement board (an XFX replacement board for the original EVGA) my system is working great and I am very happy with it.
I still wonder if its worth the extra cost, especially if you want to add alot of RAM. With 2GB RAM the cost difference is negligible, but 4-8GB and you will be paying a good premium for the setup.
My system doesn't benchmark any better than a 780i with my 1333 RAM, but there is 2000 RAM available now that will probably give a nice boost when I upgrade down the line, and over the coming months it will hopefully come down in price with improved performance.
So yes - they can be stable and work great, but its seems it takes some luck along the way to get a good one.
