How high can you overclock a Q6600 with Ram that is 800MHz or do you really need to go 1066?

with the right 800MHz ramyou can easily achieve 1066 to match the speed of your q6600's FSB

The RAM matching the FSB helps with performance does it? The Laptop I'm getting has 800MHz RAM with a P8600 with 1066 FSB too. Though I don't know anything about overclocking so I probably won't bother with that. |

ddr2 is duo pumped (x2) therefore the actual bus speed of pc6400 (advertised as 800mhz) is 400mhz (800 / 2).
intel cpus are quad pumped (x4) so the actual bus speed on a q6600 is 266.5 (1066 / 4) The q6600 has a 9x multiplier. So 266.5 x 9 is 2.4ghz which is it's stock speed. If you're wanting to overclock the q6600 with 800mhz ram and maintain a 1:1 ratio. This is what you would get. 400 x 9 = 3.6ghz |
