so this thing will outdo the GTX but use less power than an 8600?

So, what are they going to do for the GTX's? Has anyone seen benchmarks for this card yet? |

This card doesn't support DX10.1 because that was Nvidia's decision. The GeForce 9 series will be Nvidia's first cards to support DX10.1.
Rumors have it that another card to replace the GTX/Ultra will release in January (possibly a 8800 GX2). There aren't any benchmarks yet but we can all assume this card's performance will be somewhere around the Ultra's. |

I just looked over the new comparison chart on tweaktown and it looks impressive. Perhaps I purchased my GTX too soon.

It pushes a couple of extra FPS out of a 1920x1200 res. Not much difference.

I wouldn't expect anything huge off these cards for awhile now. I highly doubt there is going to be a HUGE HUGE difference between the new GTS vs GTX. I am very pleased with my 2 GTX cards and I know they will last for some time now.

The price is certainly nice for the performance, but still more than I want to spend on a GPU upgrade. I hope Nvidia remembers the mainstream at some point soon and gets the pricing on the 8800GT closer to the $200 mark, or releases something better than the 8600GTS to fill the void. If not, $214 for an HD3870 looks fine by me, SLI be damned (you Asus Maximus Formula mobo buyers have my envy

Glad I didn't wait for this card, price isn't really worth it compared to the GT.
I'm really glad I got the Asus mobo, hopefully ATI will finally catch up to Nvidia and they'll offer some good cards. And although the two they just released are definitely worth it for the price, I'm content with the GT until next years set of new cards. |

Forgive my ignorance.
![]() What does that mean it won't support Directx 10.1? Does the 8800GT? Is 10.1 a more advance version of Directx 10? How important is that? Thanks Craig |

The 8800GT does not support DX10.1, only the 3850 and 3870 currently support it.
It is going to come with Vista SP1, it is just an update to DX10. Just like how previous DirectX got updated (8.1, 9c, etc). Some of the new features/updates for DX10.1 - 32 bit floating point filtering mandatory - 4x AA mandatory - Pixel Shader 4.1 It's not important so don't worry about it. |
