I'm debating whether to buy an 8800gt right now, specifically the MSI NX8800GT, or wait for the new line of Nvidia cards to come out.

And if the 8800gt is worth buying right now, can it run most games on 1680 x 1050 well? For example Crysis and Oblivion.

The card has a 660mhz core clock speed, 440mhz ram clock speed, 1.9ghz memory clock speed, and 512mb of memory.

Heres a link to the MSI video card:

Thanks,

Any reason behind picking MSI over the other brands? Trust or loyalty or just no reason in particular?

The 8800GT is definitely worth it if you have anything less powerful than a 8800GTS.

The 8800GT will run fine on 1680x1050.

You could get the MSI cheaper at Dell =x only $208

Note: These cards run very hot so your case airflow/cooling better be superb =x

Did you purchase the EVGA 8600GT just recently?

Have you tried the EVGA Step Up program where you trade in your old card including the price difference & shipping for a new card?

I got my evga 8600gt with my digital storm computer which I ordered in August, but I necessarily don't need to do the trade in program. 200 dollars for the MSI is a really great deal...and I could always use 8600gt on another computer.

I'm running an 8600GT right now too. Oblivion is a bit of a pain. I run with HDR and forced 4xAA at 1024x768. It runs at an average of 30 FPS, but I get hiccups in the game when outdoors that make the game much less enjoyable. Indoors is no problem at all of course.

The 8800GT looks like a great card, but I'm holding off myself. I want to see what the next round of cards brings in Q1 2008. For the time being, I can live with medium settings . Of course, if I had $200 burning a hole in my pocket, and could get that price on an 8800GT, I probably wouldn't wait.

For $200 I don't see how you could possibly go wrong. IMO, do it.

I'm betting the first of the 9000 series won't beat the 8800GT. At least, not by much. Take a look at the 7900GT and compare it to an 8600GT. You can see how the later of the older series tops the earlier cards out of the new series.

Nvidia always releases the new generation's flagship before releasing anything else.

The 8600GT was released in April 07 aimed for the mainstream public. The first 8th gen card was the 8800GTX which was released in Nov 06. And it completelys dominate the 7900GT =x

Also, the last generation performance cards are not suppose to perform worst than the newer generation mainstream cards. It's always intended for the last gen performance tier to perform better than newer gen mainstream because of the difference in stream processors.

The 8800 to 9800 might not be as dominant as the 6800 to 7900 was because Nvidia is following Intel's footstep in die shrinking. But the dominance will still be there.

How's the 8800gt in SLI and have there been any tests done with games using SLI?

With 420 dollars, you can get two MSI 8800gt's because of Dell's special pricing. That just seems like an unbelievable deal to not miss out on. What do you guys think?
