    Posted: 31 Oct 2007 at 4:09pm

Been reading reviews all morning about 8800GT (such as http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/nvidia_geforce_8800_gt_performance/default.asp  and http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/10/29/geforce_8800_gt/ )

but couldn't find an answer to my specific question so decided to post to in hopes that one of the guru's on this form can help me decide.  I am either thinking about getting  8800GT in SLI or one 8800GTX (with an option for SLI later).  I am getting a dell 30" and will be running vista (64bit) @ 2560x1600.

Question:  Which configuration will give me better overall system performance (@ 2560x1600)?

I have read that running at such a high resolution, I might hit memory contraints (512mb as opposed to 768mb).   Should I be concerned about this?  Is 512mb enough to run 2560x1600?

thanks,
p0ptart

I would recommend the one GTX. It still out performs the GT in overall benchmarks and the added memory will be a boon at the higher resolutions.

SLI GT ($550) > Single GTX ($550)

SLI GTX ($1100) > SLI GT ($550)

I personally do not think it is worth $500 more dollars for a small increase.

Here is a SLI review...

And as you can see.. on average the GT just trails behind the GTX by 7 FPS @ 2560x1600.

The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star.

Based on what I've read, I concur with skyR.
