so i have my new pc up and running, and i love it. every inch.
my question is, i assume i have the 8800gts 512mb card which is what i ordered, but in 2 seperate places my video ram is listed as 640mb. any clue why that would happen?

There are 3 versions of the 8800 GTS.
8800 GTS 320mb - released shortly after the 640mb one 8800 GTS 640mb - released back in 2006 8800 GTS 512mb - the newest and also the best performing one |

Obviously DSO screwed up (either accidentally or on purpose hoping that you would not notice!!!). Give them a call and let us know what their excuse is.

Yes, go over your original order invoice and make sure it shows the 512 GTS listed, then call DS on Monday (hopefully youll get ahold of them) and tell them you got a 640 version instead of the 512 you ordered. They will obviously have to send you a replacement. Hopefully they will be nice enough to let you keep the 640 in till you get the 512.
But yes, if you were charged for a 512 DEFINALLY get on their case about it because it is a superior card in all reguards then the 640.

right, they screwed up on purpose. i know, it was a ploy to show how good the customer service is... no wait, they are trying to kick old cards off the shelf thats it
do you think before you post something like this or does it just sort of fall out

Take it easy fella, I just worded the post poorly. What I obviously meant to say was that DSO either screwed up or did it on purpose.

All is good, my friend. :)
I am actually gearing up to place a $3600 order for a new DSO rig. I'm just reading the forums daily to make sure that my purchase would be justified.

well, it is the 640mb version and not the card i ordered / paid for.
dso wasnt sure how this could have made it through qa, and assured me that a replacement would be sent and i could continue to use the card i have until the card i should have arrived. this was about a month ago now, still playing on the 640 with no new info/news.

Cowb0y, at this point, I would start a new thread in the Stormdrain. DSO employees, and in particular management seem to keep a very close eye on that forum. Contacting them by phone is also a good idea.

i feel like i should post an update.
after posting on the stormdrain i was contacted by Alex fairly quickly on my cell, he got his hands on an 8800gts 512 that day, got it put through testing, and it arrived yesterday. installed and kicking butt. they even covered the shipping cost for me to send back the old one. i was bummed that i got the wrong graphics card but really, after the attention that was given to this im glad i chose digital storm to build my rig. the end result is: q6600 running at 3.2ghz 2gb dominator ram geforce 8800gts 512 ive never had a computer that could run whatever game i want at whatever settings i choose without breaking a sweat... this ones more likely to break my fusebox. thank you digital storm.
