8800gtx sli upgrade path

I am not an enthusiast so please understand that.
 
I have a system with 8800gtx in SLI I was thinking of upgrading to a single card and would like to see a noticeable performance increase.  Is this possible with the GTX 460?  Again, noticeable boost is desired if not I'll just save the money.  The only thing I could not remember is the mother board.  I think its an EVGA 750or 760i whatever is the step down from the 780 or 790i,

2048 x1152 on a Dell SP2309W.
 
The 8800gtx sli still lets me game at high or medium on most games.
 
(Mainly playing CIV 5, World in Conflict, BF BAD Co 2, LEft for Dead 2 etc)

I was up to speed back in the day to about the 8800 Ulttra anything after that is a blank.  I'm trying to educate myself but it takes time.  I have read that people used to say the gtx 285 is supposed to be good.  I bought these cards off Ebay (Risky I know) years ago for a few hundread when they were a few hundread each new.

at that res we would recommend sli 570.

but if your sli 8800 is giving you what you want, I would go with one 570, and if that is not enough you can always add another.
