I'm about ready to submit my order and have a question regarding cooling. I plan to get this case and I've seen several posts where people commented that they had to "request the extra fan on the top of the case" either before or shortly after ordering. Below is copied form the DS Dreadnought page:
Maximum AirflowAirflow is the Dreadnought's specialty thanks to its naturally aspirated design. A massive 230mm fan mounted on the front combined with a 200mm side mounted fan help bring in large volumes of cold air into the Dreadnought's interior. Fans mounted on the back and top of the Dreadnought quickly and in large volumes, pull hot, performance inhibiting air out of the system. In bold and underlined it says it comes with fans on the top so what is the real deal? Thanks! |

Hi blankcc...The HafX case has a 230mm fan in front, a 140mm fan in back and a 200mm fan top and 200mm fan on side panel. There is room on the top, next to the other, to mount a second 200mm fan. Not neccessary but for about $30 alot do it for max airflow.
If you have stage 2 Vortex 240mm cooling then the top slots are taken up by the rad and this wouldn't apply. |

Theres one 200mm on the top right over the CPU. You can add another for 15-20 bucks from amazon, or pay DS around 30 to install it for you. I have this and its cool having so many fans, but I'm not sure what the value add really is for this additional fan. Its probably not necessary, but its fun.
There is also room internally for a 120mm fan to be added for the graphics cards, this fan actually lowered temps very significantly on my HAF X. I would recommend adding this fan.
If you're only getting one, I'd get the internal fan added. Or both, they arent very expensive.

Thanks for the clarification! I hope someone answers the question regarding how loud all these fans are.

Hi blankcc,
The HAF-X uses the 230/200mm fans because they turn at low RPMs but still move a lot of air. Basically the larger and slower the fan turns the quieter it is. So the HAF-X is a relatively quite case. A good part of the noise comes from the GPU fan and that is only noisy under extreme load. When you are playing a game with the sound turned up for effect, you won't notice the computer noise. Unfortunately noise is a subjective thing and what I think is quite someone else may think is noisy. Most owners of the HAF-X don't think it is noisy. Frank |
