Hi,

I'm going to buy the following configuration with 1 exception. I actually already have the QX9770 processor, so I'm going to select the cheapest processot when I actually place the order. I wanted to make sure this configuration will work for me after I place my own processor. Also, how easy would it be to replace the processot with the air cooling stage 2? and would that create any difficulties to the warranty?

Here is the configuration:
Specifications:
Case: Digital Storm 650Si (Black Anodized Aluminum Finish)
Power Supply: 550W Corsair HX (Dual SLI Compatible) (Silent Edition)
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad QX9770 Extreme 3.20GHz (1600MHz FSB) (12MB Cache)
Motherboard: nVidia 790i Ultra Core 2 Quad (nForce 790i Ultra  SLI) (DDR3 Only)
Memory: 2GB DDR3 Corsair at 1333MHz
Hard Drive 1: 500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA)
Hard Drive 2: - I will probably add another one later on
Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x)
Network Card: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections)
Video Card: nVidia GeForce 9800GTX 512MB
Sound Card: Motherboard Multi-Channel High Definition Audio
Cooling: Air Cooled Stage 2 (Silent Artic Cooling Heat-sink Upgrade (Copper Heatpipes)
Case Lighting: - No Thanks
Overclock Processor: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my processor
Overclock Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s)
Overclock Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory
Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system
Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium
Thanks,

Shay

You have to uninstall the heatsink and remove the permal paste from the heatsink with 99% alcohol and a lint free cloth. Then remove the processor and place your own in the socket. Re-apply thermal paste and install the heatsink. It's the hardest part of an computer installation IMO so if you've never done it, it might be hard for you.
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star.

Thanks! I actually did this in the past (without cleaning the thermal the heatsink) and it works perfect. Certainly cleaning it is a good tip.

I'm concerned about using the 650Si case with the QX9770 processor and about digital storm warrenty...

personally i would talk to a rep about mailing them your chip (putting it on your order with the price removed) and just putting the order together as if your chip was the one they got out of a box.

as far as the case, if you link your build it would be easier look over

With such a small case there might be some cooling issues, but I'm not really sure if there will be.

And yes, I would mail them the chip and have them install it, professionally done and afaik it would be covered by the warranty. I would call DSO and talk to someone about that if you can.
