i'm thinking about boosting my graphics performance on my computer, would i get more performance out of 1 Nvidia 9800GTX 512MB? or 2 9600GT 512MB's?

thats a pointless upgrade, you wont see a huge difference. if you wanna upgrade your cards, go with the GTX260 or 280.

Well i don't have $400 to spend.. would i get good performance with 2 512MB 9600GT's?

I would go with ATI 4870:
 
 
Its only about 40 dollars more than a 9800 GTX but it performs better than most 260GTX (not including core 216)
