I got the resuts of my OC today and its at 3.8... Not really what I expected from the 965... But I do know that it has room to grow and DS is going through a lot of systems right now so I cant really hold it against them. Guess we will have to see what I can push it to...

Edit: Had to change the title... I reread it and I dont want people to think I am unhappy. One other thing... they did say this was a VERY STABLE OC so I have high expectations for it. :D DS you ROCK

Wow, that is actually fairly disappointing..........any thoughts on why so low an OC? (as compared to some 940's we've heard)?

Yeah, I dont blame them for not pushing it harder. I am almost positive they had a ton of orders the past few weeks and didnt push it as hard as they could have. Fine with me, I head home in less than a week now and Id like it to be there before I get there!

Sorry to hear about that, the 965 can go much higher.

But you won't see any real-world performance gains from anything higher than 3.8.

I am sorry if the 3.8Ghz was not high enough. There should be head room to push it further, but, there may be a certain reason why yours is at 3.8GHz.

Anyways, you could call us and we could help tweak it with you to hit a higher speed if you wish but, you may run into stability issues.

Warm Regards,
Alex

Dont be sorry Alex.. its not that serious. Its not a complaint or anything. I am happy with my OC, though I did think it would be higher. The way Eric said it though I think its running at 3.8 like that is its normal speed. And after what harleyman said I am even more fine with the results. I have never been more happy with a computer in my life and I think DSO is the best custom PC business out there. Thanks for your awesome work and great customer service.

Also dont forget that every chip is different. You can take two i7 965's built the same day and one will overclock better than the other.

Just because DS has had luck with the few 965s they've built so far and have hit 4.0, do not make this a "standard" because it's not. Not everyone one will hit 4.0 Be happy with what you got.

I got the same thing, 3.83 GHz.  I've still got a lot of setup to do (never used Vista before, so just installing software is a new adventure) and then I'll do some benchmarking.

oh yeah, the liquid cooling gurgles, it's pretty cool.

I feel he same way.  I'm so giddy at the moment I can't stop grinning while going through my new machine, and I haven't even played any serious games on it yet.

Radical is correct...Much above 3.6 you begin to see no differences.....

does that include FS X with custom mesh and scenery installed, all sliders at max, including the autogen sliders?  FS X will be the real test of this monster as it's a machine killer.

Maybe in games you may not notice the difference above 3.6, but the apps sure will use every bit of speed you got.

iv had my PC at 4.0ghz and dropped it down to 3.6 and i see no difference in performance. only difference i see is a higher benchmark score. at those speeds , only thing thats affected are benchmark scores.

try encoding videos, folding and or anything CPU intensive and you will see the speed difference, I sure can tell the difference going from 4.2 to 3.8 on mine with things like encoding, folding etc.

I could careless about benchmarks, high or low.
