Going with a 2X SLI build with air-cooling. Wondering if I should go with EVGA Hybrid or ASUS Strix. What's the difference?

The EVGA card will run cooler and a couple of db's quieter because of its AIO cooling. It should allow for higher overclock if you wanted, but the Strix has a faster clock in default config. The Strix will also dump a lot of its heat into the case while the a Hybrid kicks a lot of it out of the case. Whether you go sli Strix or sli Hybrid might depend on the case you'll be putting them in. Sli Strix needs decent airflow to keep the top card cool. Hybrid doesn't have that problem but does need mounts for the rad and has the added tubing running around the mobo.

the performance available on that EVGA is pretty remarkable considering it's on a reference pcb. the cooler is just...Wow! i do wonder about it's endurance over the long haul, but these new cards are really voltage limited anyway, so there isn't a lot of extra volts going thru it.

Here is a good review of the Strix. It looks like a pretty amazing card.

I am planning to go with the Velox with air cooling. Thinking that Strix might be the way to go since I am not planning on doing any significant overclocking. I was mainly interested in whether there was any major performance difference "out of the box" and whether the Velox with air cooling will keep a 2x SLI Strix configuration cool enough in a room temperature room.

My pick would be the Strix in sli over the Hybrid. Like db said, long term endurance and reliability over the coming couple of years is an unknown. That can be said for any card, and AIO do have a good track record, but I side with reliability of air over sealed liquid. Plus, the Strix comes overclocked and its quality sets it apart and with the Velox case and its excellent fan placement, I don't see an issue.
Good luck and stay in touch. |

If you're not going to overclock, then Strix will be the faster card.
And you should be fine getting plenty of airflow with the Velox case. I would get the Strix. My old computer had 3 GTX 980 cards sitting right on top of each other, and they worked fine in a case that had less airflow than the Velox. |

Also, I just read that the Strix fans don't even turn on until you hit 60 degrees C. It sounds like they engineering this card to be as quiet as possible.

Thank you everyone. Based on the comments, it sounds like the Strix makes more sense for me.
