Well it looks like the 990X won't hit the shelves into Q1 2011. I don't understand why they wouldn't introduce the processor before the holidays, but it is what it is! http://www.maximumpc.com/article/news/intel_core_i7_990x_reportedly_shipping_early_2011 Edited by wcboltman - 23 Nov 2010 at 5:45pm |

It's all good Dragoonseal no worries!
Pretty impressive OCs on that 990X I'm looking forward to seeing some more benchmarks performed. |

cinebench is lower than my 980x and mine was at a lower overclock. lol Looks like they will OC a tad higher than the 980x from the little birdy that knows these things.

Yea that score was at 4.76 I'd like to see the one at 5.23.
I hear you're the master at OC so I'll take your word for it! |

Justin do you think the 990X will run stable at 5Ghz with TEC cooling?

NO, not for 24/7 too much V core will be needed to be stable. 32nm will not hold as much voltage as 45nm. Too many 980x have died from over volting, 990x will be no different. 4.5Ghz with under 1.4V is very hard to do, if you can get to 4.5Ghz be super happy, because it is rare. I keep[ my 980X under 1.4V except for some quick bench test runs, and it will do 4.5Ghz under 1.4V but just barely, but also max temps are in the 60'sC.
I have seen DS get 4.5Ghz but the voltage was way too much for 24/7 usage IMHO, a lot of people are advocating even 1.375V as max for 24/7.. These 32nm CPU's just can't take the voltage like the 45nm could. 45Nm 1.4V is fine for 24/7 if temp are good, 1.425V is usually considered max, and 1.45 will degrade a CPU fairly quickly, I degraded a 920 in 2 years @ 1.45V with max temps in the 70's C.

Cool thanks Justin. Looks like I'll have to wait for Ivy Bridge to hit 5Ghz

you are in our world anyways, how can you be sure that 22nm will be able to take the voltage heat? |

32Nm is what I meant not 28Nm, lol too much GPU stuff in my poor head. Usually a die shrink always mean less maximum voltage
