The X79 platform with it's quad channel memory is built for video rendering.  So I put in the i7 3820 quad core CPU.  The next step up is the 6 core i7 3930 but that is $300 more.

The HAF X case is the best case for air cooling.  Even though this build has the H100 liquid cooler for the CPU (recommended by DS for X79 systems) all other components will be air cooled.

The Corsair 1050HX PSU will handle future SLI and has a 7 yr warranty.

I put in the 120GB Intel 520 SSD for drive 1.  It's a better drive than the Corsair SSDs and has a 5 yr warranty.  For your data drive I used a 1TB HDD.  If you don't care about the speed from the SSD and just used the 1TD HDD the cost would drop to $2287.  If you then changed the CPU to the i7 3930 your cost would be $2587.  Just some options to think about.

The graphics card is the GTX 670 per your request.

Once again I forgot to add the free T-Shirt.

I hope this helps and lets us know what you think.

Because  3820 is not an unlocked processor, those have a 'k' after them.

What kaldoot said is true.  If you did drop the SSD and just used the 1TB HDD and changed the CPU to the i7 3930 (which is a K chip) you could go with stage 2 OC.  That will add another $20 to the price so your cost would be $2607.

Hi Astrotechnics,

That is a good build put up by Asangard. The 3820 is only partially locked and DS has been doing a stage 1 OC. If you want a stage two you will have to move up to the 3830K. I would call DS and verify that they are still doing a stage 1 OC on the 3820.

One other thing to consider with this build is Win-7 version. With the Home version the software limits the system to 16Gb of memory. With your rendering I don't know if you will ever need more than 16Gb but with this build that is your limit. If you think you might need more than 16Gb then you need to get the Win-7 Pro version. Additional cost: $32.

Frank

Just to build upon what Frank said.  It is cheaper to get Win-7 Pro from the start.  You could stay with the Home version and if you find you need more memory down the road you can get what is called Windows Anytime Upgrade.  Prices vary but I have seen it as low as $50.

Maybe Alex can chime in an let us know if DS offers Windows Anytime Upgrade for their customers and if so what the cost would be.

The Windows Anytime Upgrade service can actually be done on any Windows 7 computer from what I know. Here's a guide from Microsoft: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/help/videos/upgrade-to-another-edition-of-windows-7-by-using-windows-anytime-upgrade
