Budget:
$1300 is kind of pushing it for my budget but I am slightly flexible in that I am willing to go slightly higher for upgradeability and longevity of life for my computer's parts. Usage: Mostly World of Warcraft and other MMO's as I please, as well as single player games that come out. I'd love to run WoW on Max settings and modern games on at least high. This computer will also be used for various work related things but nothing more intensive than PDFs and Power Points. Special Needs: High dust environment, but I'm good about cleaning my case out on a regular basis, at least once a month and usually more around twice. http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=450652 Is what I have so far. I took the budget build from the configuration buying guide and added ona 750W power supply for upgrading in the future. It was recommended that I go with some more advanced cooling for longevity and more overclocking power. My question is, would some of the cheaper additions to cooling options make that much of a difference (the +$40 liquid cooling of the CPU) or would I do just as good to go with what I currently have. As stated above, I'm already pushing my budget limit with $1300 but I am slightly flexible in upgrades for longevity of life for this computer and upgradeability down the line when I have more money. |

it matters because of how smooth the gameplay will be while gaming. like the gtx480 is great with hd but the 470 is better at a slightly lower resolution.

1920x1600 is my main gaming monitor, 24 inch wide screen. My secondary monitor I only use for messenger programs, internet, etc. and is a 19" non wide screen

well for gaming in 1920x1600 smoothly with high/max settings you will probably need a gtx480 but since thats not in your budget you should definately get the gtx470. there also were some rumored price drops for the 470 and 460 this week so may be true and may not... just keep a heads up for that.

1920x1600 isnt a resoltion, i think you meant 1920x1080
id get a minimum of a 470 to enjoy a monitor at that size

nice catch with the 1920x1600 missed that. and i agree 470 is still a very good card. |

Thank you both for the advice, I'll definitely go with the mobo suggestion and a 460 GTX should do me fine for now until I have a bit more of a budget in a few months to upgrade.

I'd highly recommend the Corsair 750w ($+30) for long term stability and reliability.
P55 SLI Mobo (+$29) if you want more PCI-E/PCI slots for upgrading in the future. If your looking for closer to 3.9GHz on your overclock, id recommend the Stage2: Asetek 120mm (+$40). 4GB of 1600MHz RAM is only +$9. Just some suggestions, but I would recommend changing that power supply. Edited by venom - 23 Oct 2010 at 9:17pm |
