I was going to put this on a thread I already started but I am realizing that copying and pasting is making it difficult.  I do appreciate any help though, I am stressing out a little bit because I don't know if I am buying the right things or not.  So here are my questions:

1.  CPU cooler - Necessary or no.  Is this a good model if I am using a HAF 922 case

2. 5850 vs 5770 - Worth the extra 100?  How in the world do you find these things in stock.

3.  Thermal Paste??? Necessity?

4. 700W power supply enough?

I guess thats the stuff I am stressing about.  I guess this is why people just buy a computer rather than build it, and I tend to be a perfectionist, so here I am trying to spend 1500 on a computer in the perfect way, which maybe just isnt possible...

IF you are not going to oc the factory cooler is fine.

for 1900 x 1200 you want the 5870.

yes you need thermal paste

700w will cover one gpu if you looking to expand in the future then go with a 850w or 1000w.

I haven't OC before, I guess the question would be should I start...  I doubt I would ever go with more than one GPU... I really NEED the 5870 or is it something only people who really notice these things could tell.  I am not huge into games, but I do like to play a few games a year and when I do I want it to look good.  Really what I wanted to do was get direct x 11 because I may not upgrade my computer for 5 years and I don't want it to be an issue.  I appreciate the help.

oh I thought this was for gaming, ok then let me explain, at 1900 x 1200 to play games at highest settings with aa and af you would need 2 gpus, for example 2 x 275, with the new line of cards coming out, the new cards are almost twice as powerful as the current cards, nvidia is not out with their yet, their's should be here dec - jan, ati however has their's out, the 5870 can give you close to the same performance as 2 x 275, so if you are at 1900 x 1200 for gaming you want 2 x 275 or 1 x 5870.

now you say you are not a big gamer, so if you don't need to play at highest settings and aa and af then a 5850 will be ok for you.

if you are not going to oc then speed of 2.66GHz is pretty slow, and you getting a chip that can easily oc to 3.3GHz and that is concidered a very low oc for what this chip can do and it the same speed as the 975 which like $900 more expensive.

I really don't understand why you can just get this:

Here you go Ticket# 348804 --- Price: $1583 (To see this build click here) Price after current promotion $1583

joshjohansen,

I would take DST4ME's advice.  I think he will have you gaming and computing in style if you go with his recommended configuration.  He has helped hundreds of people including me get a beast of a computer with the most affordable configuration for their budget!
