Topic: A couple questions on config Posted: 03 Sep 2007 at 6:02am |
I'm finally buying my very fisrt GAMING rig! After shopping through god knows how many vendors, I've decided to go with DS for sure. You guys have made a really good name for Yourselves :) . Here's what I'm looking at right now;
Twister Pro case
intel core 2 quad Q6600 2.4GHz(1066MHz FSB w 8 MB cache)
680i Core 2 quad motherboard 2GB DDR2 Corsair at 1066MHz media card reader 2x 250 GB hard drives in raid 0 DVD RW lightscribe 1x 8800 GTS 640 MB (one for now with plans for a second one later) Air cooled stage 3 (how high can it be OC'd?) enhanced air flow cabling XP media center 2005 I plan on using my 42" LCD tv as a display (1,366 x 768 native resolution), and my home theater receiver for sound ( doby digital 5.1 using a coaxial digital audio input)
I have some questions on my planned configuration;
1)My understanding is that the stage 3 cooling includes factory overclocking. Is that correct?
2) What sort of overclock can I reasonably expect with that CPU/memory/GPU combo?
3)Is a 750W psu gonna be enough to run two 8800 GTS 640 in SLI?
4)is the GPU gonna be enough/overkill for that type of display?
5)does the 8800 GTS card have DVI-D output?
6) Do You offer a sound card that has a co-ax digital audio out so I can hook up to my receiver? I only have one toslink on my receiver and it's currently used by my Xbox360.
Sorry to have to ask so many questions, I just want to try to integrate my rig into my home theater as much as possible as I'm a couch gamer :)
Thanx in advance guys! Edited by Gotifan - 03 Sep 2007 at 6:07am |

2. You can expect the Q6600 to be overclocked to 2.6 - 2.8GHz.
3. yes, it is enough 4. a 8800 GTS 320mb is fine for your native resolution. if you won't see much performance from higher memory unless you are playing above 1600x1200. 5. The 8800 GTS comes with DVI-I ports. You can use DVI-D. |

1. Yes, the Stage 3 comes with overclocking. The cooling system is the same as Stage 2.
6. I believe the X-FI Fatal1ty would be your best bet. It comes with MANY I/O options. The I/O bay is installed on the front of the system. Check out Creative's site for exact details: http://www.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=1&subcategory=208&product=16559

Thanx for the responses guys. I have some more questions; could someone tell me the differences between the Lite and Pro cases? I love the looks of the Lite case, but I understand the Pro has more cooling and room. Anything I should know before selecting either case? I need room to run that x-fi soundcard and two 8800 GTS' in SLI config later. Suggestions or advice? I found the link for the full rundown on the Pro case, but I don't know who the manufacturer is of the Lite case. I'd appreciate it if You guys could let me know. Thanks again :)

The Lite case that DS use is the Raidmax Sirius and the Pro case is the Silverstone TJ-04. The Raidmax case is slightly smaller than the TJ-04 and the 8800GTS may not fit in there, you may want to check with DS first. Even if it does it doesn't leave you a lot of room for future upgrade.

I only know what I read in the papers, but it appears that the Ultra is the only case offered by DSO that can support water cooling. Notice that it is wider than the Extreme. Perhaps the Extreme, at the same price, is supposed to be the best choice for air cooling. Or maybe you're supposed to pick the one that you thinks looks the best.
Here's a excellent review of the Extreme (TJ09):
Here's a review of the Ultra (Coolmaster Stacker 830)
Both cases are very highly rated.
Since the one thing I'm sure of is that I'll never go for a liquid cooled machine, I chose the Extreme for purely asthetic reasons. I prefer the Extreme's "sleak Soviet era" styling. Edited by Bill the Cat - 08 Sep 2007 at 5:59pm |

The Ultra case is a CoolerMaster Stacker 830 case. If you ask me i think it's ugly. Never like case with front door, i like to see all my drives and have easy access to it.

That's exactly why we offer both choices, the ULTRA or the EXTREME.

This is the final configuration I've decided on; config# 84838 .Could one of the DS guys give Me a shipping/taxes/customs duties estimate? I tried the toll free number, but it doesn't work from Canada. Basically, I just need the total price, all totalled ,in USD .I live in Edmonton, Alberta and my postal code is T5J-1R9. Thanks in advance guys.

Looks like a great config. Here is the breakdown:
Computer: $1779.00 Tax: $0.00
Shipping (To Canada): $53.59
Grand Total: $1832.59
You will have to call us to place this order, the website will not accept orders to Canada. Also mention the $53.59 shipping rate.

I beleive that only customers in California will get hit with taxes since that is the only place Digital Storm has a physical presence.
No tax in SC.
