I'd like to start by noting how infinitely helpful the information I have found in these forums and on the DSO site have been, and thanking all who have contributed.

I have just a few basic questions as I put the final tweeks on a rig I hope to order to kick off the new year. (an edited version of the twister extreme)
1) Is the preformance difference between the Q6600 and the extreme chips (after overclocking and such) worth the added price? Or would the extra cash best be spent somewhere else?
2) If I am opting for the 22 inch Acer monitor listed, would my best bet to confront the games of the future be with a single Geforce 8800 ultra, or SLI with a couple of lesser priced cards?
3) Based on the answer to question 1 and 2, and keeping in mind that I will be looking for some respectable overclocking all around, is liquid cooling somthing I should invest in? or is the stage 2 cooling system appropriate for my needs?
4) and finally, what is the opinion of the DSO community on the actual benefit (or lack thereof) of the Killer network cards?

Thanks again to everyone, and I wish you a happy holidays.

1. I personally don't think it's worth it. If you have proper cooling, a Q6600 can go pretty high.

2. Hard to tell at this point but getting a single card with room to add another for SLI or upgrade to a better one is always the best option. At 1600x1200, you don't really need SLI to get playable FPS.

3. How high do you plan on going? Air will probably be enough for your needs if you aren't putting the PC in a hot environment.

4. I think most of us here agree that the price tag on the killer network card isn't worth it unless the rest of your PC is top of the line.
The only thing that keeps me wishing on a wishing star.

1. I'd rather spend the money on proper cooling of the cheaper chip. The unlocked multiplier is really nice, but to me, not at the sacrifice of other things.

Here's my take: both chips will run hot, so either way, you'd want the better cooling. With a cheaper chip, you get a fast system that can stay cool for hours long gaming marathon sessions when called upon. With the more expensive chip, you have a fast system, but one that may not be able to reach it's potential, in which case, why did you spend more?

2. At a 22 inch screen, you should not *need* SLI, but SLI isn't always about "need". Much like everything else in a machine built for entertainment, it's about "want". I don't personally think SLI is worth the $$$ in terms of bang for the buck unless you're going to extreme resolutions, but it's not my cash being spent.

3. Liquid cooling is going to get you better, cooler running, and more stable overclocks. I've come to a different understanding than where I started on this one. I used to think it was just for appearance, not worth the hassle or money. The truth is, there's no more hassle than having an air cooled system, and liquid cooling is *far* more effective when done right. DSO does it right. The proof is in the pudding. Read the idle and load temps posted by people using liquid vs those posted owners of air cooled systems.

4. Not worth the slot it takes up IMO.
