A few questions for DST4ME.

First being the motherboard and overclock stage2. I see this being recomended alot. Is this that big a difference to get the ASUS P8Z68-V pro with the stage2 OC vs the ASUS P8P67 with stage1? How much affect is that really having?

Second is about RAM. I see with most recomended builds that you always recomend the 1600mhz ram. Is the 2000mhz not much better or just not worth it?

Lastly I also notice you tend to recomend the 1050w power supply. Is that needed over the 800w?

I don't know much about computers. I just know how to play games on them.
.
I'm sure this has all been answered many times before but I can't look through all the posts to find all the answers. Your time and advice is much apreciated.

Maybe you stated this in another forum, but DST4ME will want to know what type of resolution you'll be playing at on your monitor. :)

I'll try to answer a few of these and let DST4ME better explain them. :)

The P8Z68 doesn't support sli or overclock stage 2 where the Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboards do. So the biggest effect (to me) would not being able to upgrade to sli in the future with the P8P67, not so much the OC.

For the RAM, I don't believe the performance isn't greater than the cost to upgrade from the 1600mhz to 2000mhz. It would just be wasting money for performance you'll never see.

The 1050HX has a 7 year warranty and is able to support tri sli I believe, where the 800 has a limited 5 year warranty (3 from corsair + 2 from DS).
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
Cooler Master 942 HAF X
Intel Core i7 2600K 3.4GHz (OC 4.4GHz)
ASUS P8P67 Deluxe
8GB DDR3 1600MHz DS Performance Series
GeForce GTX 570 1.2GB

Tho the p8p67 mobo does not support sli, it can do stage 2 oc higher, DS just does not like to do it on that mobo.

I like the extra oc (3.9GHz vs 4.6GHz), cause cpu is the brain of your pc and ocing it is like make you be able to think much much faster, so in just about everything it will matter in some games not so much, at higher res the gpu is more of a facter then cpu.

the z68 pro give you ability to go sli if needed in the future with a proper psu and a good oc.

As DGL said for gaming specially faster ram means nothing, so thats a waste and why I don't recommend it, if you want to benchmark and get the highest possible oc the cpu can get for a short time so you can get a high benchmark then highest ram is needed.

As for psu, I like to use quality one, where for ram I don't care much with brand, for psu its different, quality corsair psus are hx and ax models, only use those and I only recommend things I would use myself, what goes for me goes for everybody else also, now as DGL mentined the 1050hx has a 7 year warranty from corsair but DS's warranty is only 1 year parts.

Now if you know you have no use for sli whatsoever, and are fine with 3.9GHz oc I suggest you go with mobo you have and the 750w hx psu, if not then go with deluxe or z68 pro and the 1050hx.

your build looks good but to be sure you are not over spending we need to know What is the native resolution of the monitor you gonna be gaming at?

Thanks for your responses.

I am running at 1680x1050. Will eventually upgrade to larger but this is fine for now while I spend money on comp.

For the cpu the faster is better.

I don't feel I need SLI but I guess for not much more money it's worth having the option to upgrade to it. Wants and needs do change.

As for the ram I thought that would be the obvious answer but I needed to make sure so as to not waste money just because some numbers are bigger.

I think I'm gonna do something like this 629045 based on your recomendations and then have to add an ssd later.

Is it easy to install an ssd for someone who hasn't done this sort of thing before?

Are there any other specifics I should ask for or to be done to my final build when I order it?

you nailed it on the head with that build IMHO, you just add a ssd, another 570 if res goes up and more gpu power is needed, and the 500gb hdd is simply the cheapest choice, right now hdd prices are very high so its not worth it to get the 1TB black caviar yet, so get that and add that as hdd2 later and use ssd as hdd1 and use the 500GB as a back up for ssd.

adding ssd/hdd is easy, you need to clone the hdd to ssd to move os/apps/games and etc all in one shot, after that clone your os drive to an external as a back up. (in this case if you follow what I said, you need is an external enclosure to put the 500GB hdd in).
