Hello Everyone,
I had a couple of questions before I buy my final system, still waiting on that pesky tax return. The great people on these forums already told me what configuation I should use, and I thank you for that. Here are some items I still need help on.
1) What is the difference between a 300gb hardrive with 10,000RPM and one with 1TB and 7,500RPM? I have no idea what this means or what it does for gameplay.
2) Is a good sound card recommended or should I just use what the computer comes with? I have a 5.1 speaker system and did not know if I should upgrade my sound card or not.
3)My final question is about CPU speed and what they mean. I play LOTRO and WOW a lot and supposely a duo core at 3.3ghz is better then a i7920 at 2.66ghz for these games? I read this on the Lord of the rings online forums.
Once again thank you to everyone that can help me, and thank you for your time.

1. 300GB vs 1000GB. 10000RPM vs 7500RPM. One you would use as your OS and Games HDD, the other 1TB would be storage. The more Revolutions Per Minute the faster it can find information.
2. If your Motherboard and Speakers have a S/PDIF (optical) input, you are set. Let me know what mobo and speakers you have. 3. This is why you OC the i7 920. its $45 and you will get at least 3.3GHz with it and you end up with 4 cores at that speed instead of 2. That helps when you are running Vent or TS in the background and you have your Boss strategy web site open. Not only that but DS give you a 3 year warranty on it. Give me a budget idea and ill see what system would be good. Keep in mind that WoW is not SLI or Crossfire friendly. (I play on Khaz Modan) |

1. 10,000rpm drive is faster then the 7200rpm drive. never get a 1TB HDD for your OS very bad idea, takes a long time to scan, search, backup, etc.
2. the current mobos come with 8.1 sound but I'm not good at sound, so I'm not sure about the quality, I can tell you tho that if you care about sound too much then you might want to get the sound card. Kaleliar can help you further with this issue. 3. as mentioned for $45 you can OC the i7, which is what you are suppose to do anyways, and then your 920 i7 will be even faster then a core duo and can eat the core duo for snack in that and everything else. Put it this way with sound. my old computer is a Crosshair II that comes with a PCIe card. when i swapped from that to S/PDIF i noticed it immeadiately. The clarity was much better and this is integrated sound. I use nice speakers tho (all together they weigh more then my new puter does). |
