So for the time being I'm just reading and compiling information on what i want to use my RIG for. my budget is somewhere around $3k
Right now I'm using a 40" Samsung LCD TV as my monitor. I'm probably not going to change it until the TV stops working.
I do alot of Gaming/Stream video (you know the ones where people wear clothes?)/Photoshop/Illustrator/3d studio max/Media Storage

So earlier i was in chat with Brian Benoit (hope i spelt your name right)
and he came up with a build that I somewhat tweaked.
So what else would you consider to add before this is processed? Again this is all for me to learn from.

so you are at 1080P then right?

first you want a 6 core 3930k

second do you need a card reader?

hdd one should be ssd.

do you need a wireless card? if yes why not just the deluxe mobo that has built in wifi?

noise package is not needed, haf is quiet, most of your noise will come from your gpu's fan when under load, and you don't keep that down unless you want to burn your gpu.

change ssd to a bigger one if you think you need the room:

Yea i already added the additional fan he told me to just add it at the bottom. (at the bottom of the page where is has specifics)

yes ill be using 1080P

i also felt i should have the 6 core but since I'm limited on what i know about computers i just took what was recommended.

Yes i need a card reader. i deal with alot of SD/microSD/xD and i edit/burn videos for my brother every once in a blue moon.

The SSD's i don't know much about. i did some reading a while back and saw alot of cons that made me weary of purchasing one. even one saying something about only lasting about 2 years b4 needing to be replaced.

the wireless card is also a must. i travel state to state and so far these places i rent out of always seem to have weird places to hook into the net. so i felt instead of dealing with crazy ppl i rent from saying all the wires are a fire hazard or w/e other reason, that I'd get a card.
and brian recommended the sabertooth i had the asus z877 or somthing and he said only difference was the wifi was prebuilt into that mobo vs the one he recommended.

also i forgot to mention my games that i normally run are ones off of STEAM, SWTOR, AC series. mostly SWTOR

maybe i misread the noise package option. i was thinking it would allow more air flow

you can simply get a usb stick micro sd adapter, thats what I do.

you have got some bad info on ssd, there are lot of fakexperts out there.

1. all ssds are not the same.

2. ssds like intel and corsair have a proven record here.

3. new ssds new technology.

4. good ssds have at least a 3 year warranty.

I would go with the deluxe don't listen to what he said, there is zero reason for why you should not get the deluxe when you have use for the wifi.

noise package = turning down fans = less noise.

if type of games you play don't utilize sli then we can change psu and save some money.

I'm glad you came here and asked us

well the biggest factor for him i think was that i told him i do 3d rendering and photo shopping. not sure if its a significance for that or not.

ill look into the SSD's. any particular you recommend?
i seen alot of people use them for boot up. i also backed away because i didnt see any that were a decent size. i was hoping to keep my pc stuff/work seperate from my gaming stuff

the ones we like here due to track record are the intel 520 and the corsair neutron, fast boot is one of many pros.

on ssd should be os/apps/games

on hdd you store work/media files.

windows takes advantage of all cores, so its always help no matter what.

Created by the Cinema 4D folks we have Cinebench, a popular 3D rendering benchmark that gives us multi-threaded 3D rendering results.

those are with ssd, without ssd they would be different, so keep that in mind also.

you can always get a second ssd say a setup like this:

hdd1 = ssd = os/apps

hdd2 = ssd = games

hdd3 = 1TB BC = work/media storage

also some games can be stored on hdd till you ready to play them, then you can move them to ssd at that time.

Great advice DST4me,those benches actually helped me with some of my concerns with rendering that you were helping me with on my thread,it would be nice to have a 6core but the 3770k seems like it will fit my needs nicely especially since it will be over locked somewhere around 4.5-4.8ghz.

I had another question I'm not sure about.
for only a $20 i could get the
"H20: Stage 2: Corsair H100i 240mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler "
and for no additional cost i can get the
"H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex 240mm Radiator Liquid CPU Cooler "
should i stick with the
"AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 "?

Here at the bottoms of this page gives the results vs the h100 and its actually close in temps but the h100 is slightly cooler but not by much,I don't know if the h100i performs similarly as the h100 or not.

i was mostly wondering if it would be betting to go liquid cool or not. i've never had a liquid cool system before so i really dont know if it would benefit me much on this setup or not. that and not sure what type of maintenance is involved in that particular system

The Vortex 240 i read doesn't require any maintenance but if the pump goes bad or something leaks you have to replace it. The vortex isn't real water cooling like the stage 4

Real LC starts at stage 4, before that you are not getting real LC performance, the most important thing about a LC is the water-block and radiator, take my pc for example, remove my water block swiftech apogee xt and put a mediocre WB in there and what you get is air cooled temps.

Now as for h100, the link BP showed you, is all fans running on high, at this level the h100 is loud as hell, if you lower the fans a bit to quiet the noise then the noctua wins.

On top of that, best thing about the d14 is that you can always add a third fan or put 3 x 140mm fans on it and make it a very quiet killer, something the h100i can never keep up with, people do it all the time:

best thing to do is add good 3 x 140mm fans for killer performance.

@ArkansasWoman777, you can throw 140mm x 3 in there like the pics and get even better temps if you wanted, its pretty cheap.

Not sure to be honest, never been done before on the forum.

ask them and tell us what they say:

[email protected]

I think they will

changing the 120mm fan with the 140mm fan will make it more quiet at higher rmps since bigger fans move more air per rmp. And adding a third 140mm fan will make the cooling that much better, this may not work on some of the smaller cases, since you need room for the third fan in your case.

I shot them an email and will post the response onto this forum once I get it. Also DST4ME, after many months of waiting the money for my rig should finally be acquired mid march baring nothing bad happening between now and then. When the time comes I will once again require the advice of the you and the a-team on specs once I get the green light.

Sorry TWP, most times we endup saving people money, but if you want the parts with the proven track record, its gonna cost a bit more, IMHO at the end if you have the money, they are very worth it.

I can agree on the LC fantasy. Before all this I figured it was a necessity for overclocking. I learnes a lot both the good and bad sides of LC. This hopefully will be hassle free. Now I can start saving for my Subaru

I was in the same boat too, DST4ME and bpratt helped me a great deal a while ago when picking out a config for a build i look back at the original rig i posted and man it was full of waste. Listen to these guys they make the best aspect of digital storm even better with their advice and support. I'm just glad this time around I'll be able to post a build and finally be able to hit order after.
