Good day to you all!
After several days of looking about at a variety of PCs I decided to go with Digital Storm (not least because of the 'Why should I buy' thread. Seriously, these guys have some happy customers!) for my new PC in celebration of a new job and a higher pay grade. And here it is! Chassis Model: Digital Storm Lumos Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7-9700K (4.9 GHz Turbo) (8-Core) 3.6 GHz Motherboard: MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PLUS (Intel Z390 Chipset) (Up to 2x PCI-E Devices) (No SLI Support) System Memory: 32GB DDR4 3200MHz Digital Storm Performance Series Power Supply: 1200W Corsair HX1200 (Fully Modular) Optical Drive: External USB - DVD/CD 8x Multi-Drive (Writes and Reads DVDs, CDs) Storage Set 1: 1x SSD M.2 (500GB Digital Storm M.2 Performance Series) Storage Set 2: 1x Storage (2TB Seagate / Toshiba) Internet Access: Wireless PCI-E ASUS PCE-AC56 (Supports 802.11ac) Graphics Card(s): 1x GeForce RTX 2070 8GB (VR Ready) Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Digital Storm Vortex 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler (Fully Sealed + No Maintenance) Cable Management: Premium Cable Management (Strategically Routed & Organized for Airflow) Chassis Fans: Standard Factory Chassis Fans CPU Boost: Stock Factory Turbo Boost Advanced Automatic Overclocking Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 Home (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: USB Drive - Windows 10 Installation (Format and Clean Install) Virus Protection: Windows Defender Antivirus (Built-in to Windows 10) Office: Microsoft Office 2019 Home & Student (PC Attach Key PKC Only, No Pre-install) Keyboard: CM Storm Devastator 3 Bundle (RGB) (Gaming Keyboard & Gaming Mouse) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 20-25 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty (3 Year Labor & 1 Year Part Replacement) The 1200W power supply might be a tad overkill but I had a bad experience many years back with a power supply dying from overload and I'd like to avoid that this time around. I quite like the process by which DS navigates customers to purchases and all was well on that front. Now I'm just waiting on the delivery! The order is still in stage 1 but it's still well within the 20-25 business days from time of order processing so I'm not too worried about that. My main question would be if the progression of the order has anything to do with the financing options. I took the Bread loan on the unit and the first payment is not due until March 1st. Do I need to make that payment before the order will progress past stage 1? Has anyone else bought a unit and paid via Bread before? Any experiences or anecdotes will be quite insightful. Cheers mates! |

Welcome to the forum silverbeard!
The build you put together should play very nice at high settings in most games for a long time. You ordered a lot more RAM than the 16gb needed for just gaming... Yes the 1200wCorsair PSU is a lot of power headroom, but it’s an 80% Platinum digital unit with a long warranty that’s very efficient...I have one myself. Have never used Bread so I can’t comment on that process. Feedback on your build... Couple things I see in the build we on the forum might have suggested if you had posted for comment before buying. Changes now might delay the order a little, but are possible if you decide to make any. The M.2 DS Drive1 is only a SATA III Drive...would have suggested you use one of the Samsung Evo M.2 NVME drives as they take advantage of the way way faster PCIE video bus. You do have a 2nd M.2 slot I believe, so it would be very easy for you to add one yourself later. You could have moved up to use the MSI Gaming Edge or Pro Carbon motherboards with on-board WIFI , instead of the add on WiFI board. Would have suggested the better solid performing Corsair 240mm cooler over the DS model. A free stage 1 overclock on the CPU could also have have been utilized, and free case lights were also available. Hope that’s all of interest to you. I have ordered 4 DS rigs since 2011 and all still work well. The last one was a Lumos build...great case.

I used Bread for my last build. Once Bread confirms your financing, Digital Storm builds and ships your PC, independent of your obligation to Bread. They don’t wait for your first payment to Bread before building.
Basically, the payments are between you and Bread and DS gets their money regardless. Enjoy your new rig.

I found Bread to be very customer friendly. Weather related delays affected my checks to them back in Jan and Feb of 2018, and they were understanding and patient to receive them.
Extra RAM is a little pricey here just now, so you might dial that back until you know you need it, if ever. I agree the name brand parts may be better for the fact they carry 5 year warranties from their manufacturers. DS branded parts are high quality, but are less expensive because they do not have the lengthy warranties. I'd definitely suggest you get one of the WiFi equipped mobos. You'll put that extra $ to better use getting a better feature set. My fave is the MSI Gaming Pro Carbon. |

I have to ask, Why 32 GB of ram if you're a gamer? Streaming only needs 8, 16 max.
Your PSU no matter how much money you spend on one does not mean that's better quality and can't fail on you. You have ZERO need for that PSU. Buy the Corsair AIO, lower your ram to 16 and you get a much better cooler with a long warranty. Lower your PSU to the 750 Corsair, you can run everything and you just saved your self over $100. Try to remember you're financing, so you're already giving them hundreds in interest charges. You're about to spend over $3000 on something that has components with only 1 year warranty. Doesn't that bother you? Just my thoughts. |

Just trying to help someone save money, when they're simply buying something because it adds more RGB to the MOBO.

Thanks for the insights mates!
PinkGoat: You're definitely right that 32gbs of RAM was much more than I needed. In hindsight I have no excuse beyond the 'passion purchase' defense. Which is no defense. Same for the PSU but it's funny that you bring up a 750 Watt unit; my previous computer had an EVGA N1 750 watt PSU. And that basically burst into flames within a year of me putting it to use (not literally but you know what I mean)! And I know the wattage might not have had much to do with that fate but... colour me nervous. Bitten and shy. I have heard Corsair units are generally more reliable than industry standard but I guess I don't have specific figures to back that up. As for financing, I'm going to pay off the unit in 3 months. No interest for me, no sir! In fact the only reason I went for the financing option is because my bank charges a fee for transactions over a certain limit. Paying the whole thing off in one go would have cost me about 20% more! The 1 year warranty thing is a point of concern, no question... but I don't know what I could have done about that. I guess I didn't really realize that DS parts had wayyy shorter warranties than other parts. Still, good points. And if I may, it's pretty incredible that you could guess the price tag just from the component list. Impressive!
Cretae/HockeyBuck: You're right about the onboard WiFi. I should have thought of that/come to you folks before finalizing. Noob mistake.

If you're not out of Stage 3, you can change anything you want, even now. Believe me, DS wants you to be happy with what you are getting, no regrets. They will happily work with you.
