Please see if you have any suggestions for this configuration. In particular, is the temperature display and fan control worth the $ with the Zalman fans? I am thinking I might want it to control noise but I am flying blind.

I will probably play at 1280 by 960 unless I change monitors. I have a better one I may switch in that has dvi. |

OK but keep in mind we pick your GPU based on your resolution, if we pick one for 1280 by 960 and then next week you get a monitor that is 1900 x 1200 your GPU is gonna be too weak to pull the new resolution.
so you sure you want to go with 1280 by 960? aslo what games will you be playing? Edited by DST4ME - 16 Feb 2009 at 9:56pm |

How about a price range, before DST starts building you $4,000 systems.

My Samsung monitor runs nice on dvi at 1600x1200, so that might be my choice if I go up from 900x1200. 1024x1280 is another option. I have not used that monitor for games so am not sure what I will do, as I will also use it for business and darn that small type!!

I put the Zalman fans in my original build because I thought the DSO 850Si case with its native fans was not as well cooled as the HAF932 case with its native fans. I have not seen others taking the Zalman fans with the HAF case.
Just checking: Is the gain with the Zalmans enough to warrant their extra expense for overclocking in this case? And I reask my question about the the choice of this case when it is used as a side table...do you think it is "safe enough" with reasonable caution? (I guess you do from your suggestion... but I want to double check!)

with the HAF you don't need any fans and you are good to go, for OC the v8 is gonna do 90% of the cooling, the case comes with all fans you need and it will do its just great.
never use any of your cases as a side table, these cases have fans on the top and need it open for air flow. |

To double check...you say there is a fan in the TOP of the 850SI case that needs to be left open?? (I have not seen one in person.) |
