I'm looking to buy my very first gaming computer. I'm on a bit of a budget and can only spend $1500 at the very most. I really like the feel of Digital Storm and would love to buy from them. I'm going to be using this computer for mostly gaming (FPS and MMO). It will also be used for some highschool homework (nothing too fancy). I know it seems like a lot less than most of the computers here and I don't want to be insulting to Digital Storm because their prices seem fair. I was just wondering what is the best set up I could get for $1500 because I'm totally new at this.
Thank you, Lukrieg |

One more thought, do gaming laptops even compare to their desktop counterparts? I only ask because one may be more flexible for school.

Thats the one I've been thinking about. Would it handle a game like Crysis? Thanks for the quick reply too!

At resolution of 1600 x 1200 or less yes but keep in mind that its not able to do sli in the future.
if you want one that can be upgraded down the road and can do sli and is oced for faster speeds, it will be around $1700 -$1800 |

What would be a computer that could do SLI for that 1700-1800 range?
Sorry about all the questions. I'm a total noob at this. Edited by Lukrieg - 11 Aug 2009 at 2:13pm |

You may not need to worry about SLI capability. What size monitor are you using?
My rig is using a GTX 285 with a 22" monitor (1680X1050) and runs Crysis and everything else fine.
That "best bang for the buck" system is no slouch, and gives you room to easily upgrade video card and RAM as you need it later on..

the need for sli would be if in the future, he/you want to get a bigger monitor, say a 24" with 1900 x 1200.

Thank you for all the help DST4ME! I'm looking for a rig that I won't have to upgrade much for a couple years but then able to upgrade down the road. Also i'll probably only be on a screen around 22 inches.

I'm aware of that, that's why I asked the OP what size monitor he is using.
I was also adressing his original statement of having a max budget of $1500, but I missed where it's now $1900, so... Edited by lgm25c - 12 Aug 2009 at 4:30am |

Don't worry about it lgm25c. I'm probably going to keep under my budget but I was just wanting to explore options for a bit more money. And as for a monitor I haven't gotten one yet but it will be in the low 20's inch wise.

perhaps you didn't notice but the price is not 1900 its $1795 and the reason for the extra money is that in the future he can make his PC handle much more then the 1500 prebuild if needed.
in short in the long run my config will cost alot less then the $1500. I understand people's budget however when they are informed about how in the long run the cheaper PC will cost more then they sometimes stretch the budget since its worth it. |

It sounds like it may be wisest to try and pull some extra money in this weekend and go for the more expensive set up because I don't want to feel like I have to upgrade right when I get a new computer.

Well in all fairness, if you don't see yourself going sli in the future the 1500 is great, however if you want to game at highest settings, with a high AA and AF then sli is what you want and 2 x 275 is much cheaper then 2 x 285 but the difference between them is very very little and not worth the extra money.
if the mobo of the $1500 system could do sli, which from what I understand it can't, pushing 2 x 285 on a 750w PSU is not the best idea, but a 750w can easily handle 2 x 275. but take your time, consider both sides and then go with what is best for you, we are just providing info thats all, I'm not trying to push you one way or another, I just want to make sure you know all the facts before you make your decision
