I'd love a few opinions or advice about this possible configuration for a Digital Storm PC. After reading around the forums some more, and doing some additional research on Newegg, I think I have a slightly better idea what to select component wise, though I am still not certain.

On further consideration, there is no way "system lighting" would even look good with all these fans, let alone be necessary, I'll be sure to leave it out of the build. |

Question about the motherboard and SSD as well, by the way. I frequently see the P67 deluxe recommended. I can certainly see why but is there really anything wrong with the z68 pro? It has many of the features of the deluxe, and additionally if i ever want to use quick sync/virtu/SRT on my physical drives, it's there. I mean, yes it has less power phases, but does that even matter for sandy bridge? I was under the impression that they were overclocking great on either board. I'm honestly just curious about this, I want to understand :).
The other component I was somewhat concerned about was the SSD I suppose. It seems like a great drive, excellent reviews, good speed, and the price is actually less than the 320 at the moment and it has a little more space. Is there something wrong with this drive that I'm missing? It costs less, is bigger, runs faster (I think?) but is not recommended here so I think I may be missing something. Anyways, I hope everyone has a great day! Edited by Fenir8 - 17 Aug 2011 at 3:09am |

Stick with the Intel 320 series for your SSD. They're much more reliable and doesn't greatly lose its performance over time. It also has 5? years warranty if I'm not mistaken. The crucial ones seem to give people a lot of problems.

Nothing wrong with z68, but some of the new features are buggy, but if you don't use them then you are fine.
change ssd to 320, change hdd2 to 1TB black caviar for its speed, the rest looks good

Only question I have about the 320 is will I miss sata 3 at all? If it's a meaningless number in the case of current disks, feel free to say so, I'm just unsure to be honest so thought I'd ask. I do like the ssdtools that I am seeing looking into intel, they seem useful. Edit:
Hope those bugs are worked out too :). Don't plan on using them right now, but would be nice to down the road. Edited by Fenir8 - 17 Aug 2011 at 10:43pm |

Your mobo has sata 3, your drive would only need it if its speeds were faster then sata 2, this is not the case so you got nothing to worry about, lot of hdds will say "sata 3" but their speeds will never even max out sata 2 so whether you connect them to sata 3 or 2 it will make zero difference.

Last question (far as i know ;) ).
Do you think it's worth upgrading to the 160gb ssd for 67$? It's only that much because doing so pushes me into the next "tier" for the discount promo going on. |

I think it's worth it for only $67 more.

Its between that and the 2.5gb version of the 570's to push it over 3k :). Won't get both. Edited by Fenir8 - 18 Aug 2011 at 12:09pm |

Personally if I had to choose I would get the SSD. It seems to make everything run fast. Bu what is your gaming resolution and how much AA do you use when you game?

Well it will have an ssd either way. Question is between 120 and 160. But if you mean fitting more games, then yeah :)
As for resolution, think its 1920 x 1080 right now.hope to get the dell moniter everyones talking about later :) |

for the next 2 years sli and 1.2GB should be enough, after that to get great perfomance once has to upgrade gpus, but if you want to own these gpus for the next 5 years, get the 2.5GB versions.
I guess the 160GB is good, personally more then a $1 a gigabyte and I'm not happy but we are talking ssds so that is good for now till prices come down close to hdds, lol, but with the sizes of these new games more room is better, of course you can always just add another ssd as HDD3 and install the rest of the games on that one once you feel the first ssd is getting filled up enough. Good advice on both fronts really. If you were picking ONE though (to get discount), which would you, personally, choose :).

is the 160gb more bang for my buck than the 2.5gb cards or vice versa. (or do you see a better place to put that money to bump it up to 3k since doing so knocks off another 25 and makes the part i choose to upgrade cost effective)

I'm going to go ahead and pull the trigger. I'm getting the Haf X Blue edition case with the additional fan on top and i'm going to go with the 160gb intel 320 drive, everything else as we discussed :)

dst will some how disagree with me. My 128gb c300 beats the 320 by a fair margin. The c300 is actually faster on sata 3 than 2 so it needs it. Edited by RiceEatin2000GT - 19 Aug 2011 at 1:57am |
