OK ive almost got everything i want set up perfect but...
the video card
For almost the exact same price i can get a gtx 260 or a ati 4870 card.
To me there is no differences... but im sure there is something better about one. If anyone has had any experiences with either and/or recommendations, it would be greatly appreciated. Also if either one is more user friendly or has bugs/glitches etc please tell me.
the monitor
I dont know about the companys Acer or Samsung making the best products (i had a friend whose samsung died on him after 6 or 7 months). If anyone has any recommendations for a good monitor and/or if i should just buy one seperately for around the 300-400 dollar range.
Thx in advance.

What motherboard are you choosing? I would match your motherboard to your card, i.e. NVidia board - NVidia card, Intel (ASUS) board, ATI. That way you have the option to add a 2nd card.
If you plan to go with a single card I would go with the 4870. The performance is very close and ATI's just look better to my eyes. The colors are better and they seem "smoother". Very subjective though I must admit.
ATI cards work with everything as well... (at least they have for me over 10 years, 3 generations of cards and probably over 100 different programs and games...)

As far as I know. SLI works with Crysis (well for starters Crysis in general WORKS due to the fact it was designed for the Nvidia architecture)
Crossfire at least going triple and up doesn't work at all from what I saw on the reviews. (A 4870 x2 does work lol) Edited by Axel Daemon - 03 Sep 2008 at 12:20am |

I know most folks like Samsung and it's a great monitor albeit a little more expensive. I bought a 22" LG Widescreen and I love it, very clear, fast response time and I like it.

Cards: they're basically the same price in the configurator. I would select the GTX 260. It runs cooler, and uses much less power at idle. Monitor: Samsung 22". I looked over a variety of monitors. The only reason I purchased Dell over a Samsung myself was price. Had I an additional $80 to spend on a monitor at the time, I would have gone with a Samsung all the way. Hands down better than the other ~15 brands I looked at in 3 brick and mortar stores locally. |
