Thanks.
How about the Antec 900 case vs. the Coolermaster HAF? Are there distinct advantages of one over the other?

About the HAF case, I remembered reading on reseller rating site, one person gave DS a bad rating cause he/she did not like the look of the case.
Also to quote from MaxiumPC, "Reactions to the case's aesthetics were mixed-some editors hated the combination grill and window side panel, others loved it." It did got 9 out 10 and the "KICK ASS!"

I think the HAF is a like it or hate it type of case. Looks are nice but I will take the air flow above the looks. Plus with a little imagination the HAF can be turned into something awesome. Paint, decals etc. etc.

meh...its a great system but beyond the amount I want to pay...I do not care too much about OC...just the standard amount DS will provide using the original aircooler I selected. I think the gtx285 is a better bang for buck right now then the 295....my plan is too upgrade the PSU, graphics card, and processor as I need to over the course of several years..

well the price we can work on by moving things around, the 295 will easily out do the 285 in your resolution and with better fps comes a bit higher price.
also the PSU you don't upgrade, you wanna pay twice for a PSU why? bad idea, the PSU, you get something that allows for your future GPU upgrades, otherwise over time you are going to pay a lot more then you needed to. the 1000w will support a 295 now and one later too. or even 2 x 285, your 750 will need to be upgraded when you go sli. I don't think you understand the importance of OC, before your GPU, or anything else, your most important thing is speed, OC is will make a drastic difference to speed. You are talking about 2.66GHz vs 3.8GHz, that is a huge difference in everything you do with your PC, not sure how you don't see the importance. thats like the difference between 20mph and 100mph. so no LC: here you go Ticket# 241766 --- Price: $2868 (To see this build click here) Copy of Specifications: Chassis Model: Cooler Master HAF 932 Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Interior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz (Quad Core) Motherboard: EVGA X58 3X SLI (Intel X58 Chipset) (Supports Triple SLI or CrossFire) System Memory: CLEARANCE HOT SELLER: 6GB DDR3 1333MHz Corsair XMS3 Power Supply: 1000W Corsair HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Card Reader: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 300GB Western Digital VelociRaptor (10K RPM) (16MB Cache) (Extreme Speed) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 500GB Western Digital (16MB Cache) (7200 RPM) (SATA) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD±R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 20x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 295 1.792GB (Includes PhysX Technology) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Cooler Master V8 (Compatible With i7 Processors) Liquid Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a H20: Stage 3 Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: Internal Chassis Lighting System (Blue) Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Yes, Overclock the processor as much as possible with complete stability Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Tweak Windows: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) (For Enthusiasts) Restore Kit: Digital Storm Specialized Recovery System (DVD Image Based) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Benchmarking: - No Thanks Install/Test Game: - No Thanks LCD Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks Warranty: 3 Year Platinum Care Extended Parts & Labor Warranty only $70 more but more powerful plus you still get another $150 off that price. |

good point about the PSU.
Lemme re-think the LC vs AC.....I admit I am new to overclocking and have not experienced the difference between a system that has and has not been overclocked.

What are the differences you can do with OC on air cooling vs. liquid cooling on the I7 920?

its hard to say, first key factor is the chip itself, some oc better then others no matter what you use but lc always gives you the shot at the highest oc.
I think the v8 is a perfect choice for you in this case, you can expect 3.5 to 3.8GHz oc speed. also don't forget you get another $150 off that price |
