do you do video processing now? if yes how much ram do you need for that?

also post your ticket number, what is the res for that 2707wfp? 1900 x 1200 or 2560 x 1600?

that is not the best way to config, lot of waste of money there that will make no difference.

It uses 6 GB but have multiple bottlenecks (memory, CPU, MB)  and time is money.

I am changing to the below monitor as it seems to be the best I can find <$3000 :

Dell UltraSharp 3007WFP-HC 30-inch Widescreen Flat Panel Monitor Max Resolution 2560 x 1600 Contrast Ratio 1000:1 - Response Time 8ms - Digital DVI-D with HDCP connector ONLY (no VGA)

From what I gather of the 2707wfp is 1920x1200.
And I concur with DST, this setup is a ginormous waster of money, the most egregious of which are
-The 980X cpu
-Quadfire 5970
-Internet Card
-Zalman upgarde Fans

You might be able to justify the 980X if you make living off number crunching but I promise you everything else is a waste of money.

DST4ME will be able to knock together a system that's substantially cheaper and yet on par with what you configured

at 2560 x 1600 all you need for smooth gaming is 2 x 5870, as I mentioned more ram is not going to help bottle necking, but if the system needs more ram to work then go ahead and add 6 more GB to my config, but if you want to help with bottle neck then you need to find some good ram with great timings and ask DS to use those, that will cost you more money but it will help with bottle necking.

you have contradictive stuff, you got upgraded fans on a LC system, not needed, and very loud fans, noise package is pointless, trap noise trap heat, in short I took out the bs you don't need and left what counts.

as for monitor the 3007wfp was ok but the new 3008 model is much better.

I appreciate the help with this.

Is there any advantage to the 2000 mhz ram vs the 1600?

Why not put the SSDs in raid 0?

I was looking to put the 2TB x2 drives in Raid 1 for guaranteed storage security.

It looks everyone is advising against the 5970 2GB. Are they just for bragging rights and serve no purpose in current hardware/applications?

I am extremely concerned with noise and I know there is definately a difference in fans. I have a midrange hearing loss that makes conversation very difficult with much fan noise/HD noise going on. (I have up to 7 machines going at once, but I am pretty sure this would pick up the work load of at 3 of them.)

With that additional information would there be any changes I should make?  Your familiarity with this hardware is very helpful and I truly appreciate your time.

for gaming not much but for other tasks yes you could get a boost in those tasks, but then the latency of the 2000MHz here is not that great.

lol sorry that is suppose to be in raid, otherwise you can't have two drives, and yes it was suppose to be raid 0, I don't normally advise raid so I forgot to pick it, but I think for you its the right move, gives you room to work with large files and give you more speed which you seem to be after. and I chose the intel cause they are the fastest they have here.

the 5970 is internal cf, so its 2 x 5870 on one card, this hurts its over all performance and also produces more heat.

2 x 5870 out performs 1 x 5970 and 3 x 5870 beast out quad fire 2 x 5970. scaling is not as good on quad fire. Also people make a mistake and think that the 5970 has 2GB of ram, its does not, it actually has 1GB ram per gpu and since there is 2 of them, they say its 2GB but in cf ram does not combine, for example if you played gta4 with hight aa and af, it needs 1.5GB of vram, if you tried to do this with a 5970 you would fail, cause you have only 1GB of ram to use.

also remember rule number 1 in gpu is: whenever possible use a single card solution.

IMO 5970 is for people that need 2 x 5870 but can't afford it or don't have the pci lanes to spare, or are just not informed and think they have a 2GB card which they don't.

well the fans on the rad for the LC that they use here are loud, you may want to ask them to use low cfm fans like scythe "GentleTyphoon", otherwise its gonna be loud, the same with case fans, again this is something you have to ask DS specifically to use and it will cost a bit more but it will get you quiet or close to it as much as possible.

My pleasure

Does this motherboard support triple SLI without dropping to 16x 8x 8x?  Is there even a board out right now that has 3+ 16x PCIe cards?

classified will give you two 16x and 1 x 8x.

I think the 4x classified will give you three 16x.

I guess I will call and find out exactly which model they are offering.  I sent that question in as an e-mail and got a vague answer.  Yes this board will do Triple SLI.....

OH I was talking to one of the techs few months ago and he mentioned working on a 759, so I thought they were available. Maybe he was working on an old one or something.

762 is the 4x classified, for that you will either need the lian case or modified hailstorm.

Yeah I was reading elsewhere when researching the Corsair 800 (Hailstorm/Black ops)  that for this MB there is a plate that has to be modified.

I really liked the Antec 900 case I used when I built an AMD gaming machine for son, but DAMN I wish I really like the corsair, cable management and modular drive management is sweet.
