Hi, I'm about to order this, please let me know if this is a good build. I will be using the comp on 1900x1200 res.
http://www.digitalstormonline.com/comploadsaved.asp?id=457331 Also side question, what's the difference between the noctua 120mm fan and the noctua u12p? |

Same animal, the 12 in 12p denotes the 120mm fans. the Notcuta 14 denotes 140mm fans.

Could you show me some info pointing that out? When I researched the Noctua coolers on the web it sure seemed to be the same thing I saw no indications there was any difference. Unless he ment the 120mm FANS that go ON the Noctua u12p
which would make it a subset of the u12p and not the same thing.....in which case I misinterpreted his question. Edited by MagiK - 15 Nov 2010 at 10:54am |

Yeah I didnt mean the 12 and 14 were the same, I meant that when you see the Noctua 120mm Cooling fan advertised it seems to always mean the u12p
as you said the 14 is...something very different...and much bigger. |

I am building a PC for myself this week and chose the Ud14, because it was $10.00 more, but looks like here it is a $55.00 upgrade, so for around a 3C improvement on temps, $55.00, I would stick with the Ud12. rest of the build looks fine, I hate to give my opinion on builds, because so many items are more subjective, so ,, yeah.

Comments on one's builds should usually be acknowledged as being at best informed opinions and one man's meat may be another man's potatos (so to speak)
I personally would go with the u12p |

Comments on builds based on subjective items, I stay out of. Like plastic crap for example. subjective like all thing made by coolermaster are the worst designed, worst built, brilliantly marketed steaming piles of crap ever, right next to logitech's ultra crap products... that us why I stay out of most build items, Raw data/performance I am OK on, but all things subjective I am a bit biased.. Pay no attention to my posts when it comes to subjective matter, for humor purposes/rants only.

We all have our biases and prejudices. It has been my experience that extreme technical types (such as engineers) Don't understand the esthetics sideof the equation because it doesnt come down to precise sets of numbers but are based on the feel, or look of the issue. I make a lot of money being a bridge between the two worlds

Just a side note, the NH-U12P has been discontinued, the new replacement is the HN-U12P SE2 (Two Fans, NF-P12's). The NH-D14 Extreme had two fans a NF-P12 and NF-P14. My preference would be to error on the side of cooler, spend the extra $55 (IMHO).

When we say the NH-U12P we mean the NH-U12P SE2, we just don't say the whole thing.

Most people would say go with the regular reference version and do the OC yourself.
I would have gone for the HydroCopper 2 version if it had been available today ![]() |

Hell no, it's just factory overclocked and they charge you $90 for it. Get a normal one and overclock it yourself or have DS overclock it for free. |

I wonder what brand DS is offering for the standard (Non Black Ops) GTX 580. It doesn't specify in the configurator.

Because it doesn't matter, they're all reference cards, they're all the same. The only difference would be if you went with an EVGA card for the Step Up Program, since DS is an Approved Participating System Builder in said program. |

Ok, I changed a few more things, made it cheaper. I lowered the i7 from 950 to 920. And I decided to get the regular gtx 580.
Here is my final build:
Any more suggestions? Or am I ready to hit the order button?

In general the 920 is as good as the 950, bang per buck wise, and it OC's about the same....it is really the same chip marketed differently for one reason or another by Intel.
