    Posted: 13 Dec 2009 at 7:01pm

I have Acronis True Image 10 on my current PC that's running Windows XP Pro.  I've used it to clone my hard drive to an external HD - as per DST4ME's instructions.

Now according to Acronis - I'm going to have to buy Acronis True Image Home 2010 for my new DS rig which runs the 64-bit version of Windows 7.

So my question is this:  Is there any reason for me to uninstall TI 10 & install TI 2010 on my old PC?

I would not buy 2010. create the bootable rescue cd and you should be able to boot off that in any pc and get cloning option from there. if that does not work then you might need to get the new one.

you should have just told them you were upgrading your os on the old pc that has the T10 on it and see if they would give you the 2010.

I haven't purchased TI 2010 yet so I'll call Acronis sales dept. when I get my rig back from DS. Thank you for this great advice.

My pleasure good luck

even if they still won't give you the 2010 version for free, just use the rescue cd and it should work if you boot off of it.

OK, but eventually I'm going to need to create a clone for the new DS rig & I'm going to get TI 2010 in order to accomplish this, correct?

if you use the rescue cd and put it in the new rig and boot off of it, you should be able to just use it on the new rig for cloning.

I've used Acronis on a 64-bit Win7 system.... Actually, I guess I did boot off the CD, so I was actually using Linix. Regardless, I haven't seen any compelling reason to upgrade, yet.
