I unfortuntely have to send my PC in to DS for repairs and was thinking of adding a 3RD  GTX 280. How much gain do you get with lets say ADmark it was scoring about P23000 with the 2 cards depending how I set it up. Plus it costs about $750 for the card and the dool loop cooling. So Im leaning towards not doing it.

you will see the difference in benchmarks and thats it. you may  get more FPS in crysis and high end games, but 3GPU's is overkill if you ask me . stick with 2. thats just my opinion . lets see what the rest of the boys have to say

If you game at high resolutions then it's worth it (don't go with a dual loop).

If you are running or planning to run this system on a 30" or larger, you will need a third GTX 280.
 
If not, don't worry.

Im having cooling problems Nomak. And I run my system on a 24" samsung syncmaster 245T so I wont be going larger anytime soon.I play my console games on a 46" so ya sometimes its hard to go back to the 24" when I do upgrade it will be when the next gen of GPUs come out then maybe I will change up.

A third one will keep you from having to to a new sreies as soon and SLI is costly. Myself I want at least two years Before I spend another $1000 os so for sli gpus

If you play at 1920x1200 res and up a third GPU will give you a small performance gain in certain games.

If you are gonna game at 2560 x 1600 or higher you need 3 gpus
