Hi and thanks in advance for helping with my question;

I have a 120gb SSD that i use primarily for gaming and a 2T regular HD i use for storage. I'm constantly running out of room on my SSD and would like to know if it's possible to add another one. I'm fairly competent with computers, i have replaced several graphics cards and even the power supply but I'm leery of messing with the hard drives. When i ordered my PC from DS i asked about expandability and I thought they told me i would have a slot to install an extra SSD but I'm not 100% sure, and if i have it I don't know what it looks like.

Can anyone tell from my config below if it would be possible (easy?) to add a second SSD to my computer? Would games on the second SSD be as fast as the ones on the primary?

thanks again for your help!

Yep, you should have no issue installing a second SSD.

And yes, games on the 2nd SSD would be just as fast as those on the primary as long as the 2nd SSD had comparable or better specs to the 1st SSD. (Assuming any inferior hardware differences would be substantial enough to matter, which is unlikely).

Hi moxxus,

Make sure you don't buy another Intel 320. The new SSD's are much faster. If you want another Intel get the 520. Don't get the 510.

thanks! i will definitely get intel and not the 510, they warned me about that one when i bought my computer. it's hard to imagine a faster SSD though, my pc boots up in like 15 seconds as it is!

so how difficult would it be to install? i can get it plugged in but aren't there alot of settings/configuration things that need to be done for a second hard drive? do i have to figure out all that 'raid' business? any suggestions on how to configure a second SSD?

Hi moxxus,

It is pretty simple. You just have to mount the dirve into a drive bay. You might have to use a 2.5/3.5 adapter so it fits the drive bay. Plug in a power cable from the PS. Plug in a SATA cable to the drive and a SATA-3 plug on the Mobo. Turn on the computer and it should recognize the drive and configure it. You don't want to put it in a RAID setup.

so in the end this wasn't too terribly difficult. DS already had a power cord hooked up for me so i just had to plug in to that. i did have to run a cable to the motherboard and that was tough because 5 out of the 6 slots were already taken. I had to wiggle behind the graphics cards to get it plugged in.

The hardest part of the whole ordeal was seating the SSD in the bay! the little screws with the rubber around them that hold the metal tray that came with the drive were not in the right place. after much fiddling i just took them out and screwed the metal bit into the tray.

after i got it installed my pc didn't prompt me or anything so i had to google around until i saw where you have to go in to setup and format the drive and give it a letter. again not difficult to do once i read about it online.

thanks for your help!
