I was wanting to add three fans to my 360 rad in my duel loop. I was using Y splitter to run 2 fans off of one of the MB case fan pins. Problem is I could get two to work but when I tried to add a second, only one fan would turn on. The second fan would start then stop.
Right now I have 6 fans on my two rads, would like to have push/pull on my 360 that is hanging off the back.
how can I do this? I am out of AUX MB fan plugins.

Run the fans direct from the power supply with something like these http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=34_82&products_id=1369
If you want the control the fans the obviously gonna need a fan controller. If your fans are loud and you don't need to adjust the speed often you could use http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=34_82&products_id=25975 Edited by AndydViking - 25 Jul 2010 at 8:35pm |

if they're loud, don't get those cables lol, just rewire the molex connector to undervolt the cables.
Molex 101 red = 5v. yellow = 12v. black = ground. you need to connect a powered cable to a ground cable to complete the circuit. if you want it running a little quieter, you can use the molex to 3-pin adapter andy posted, and adjust what cables the fans take manually. all you need is a small flat-head screwdriver to rip out a molex connector. to rip it out, just look in the head of the connector for the pin you want to get out. you should see two fins jutting out of the pin opposite each other on that pin. use the small flat head screwdriver, and gently nudge them toward the pin itself so it's completely circular. then just pull it out. to reattach it, have the pin in hand, and gently pull them out again, and stuff the pin into the hole you want. normally, the fan would run 12v, as in, yellow and black in the circuit. to run it at 7v, leave the 12v yellow cable be, and remove the black cable. now, remove the red cable, and insert it into where the black cable was. it's now running on a 12v -> 5v circuit, and it interestingly produces a 7v current. if you want it running even quieter, you can make it run at 5v. to do that, remove the 12v yellow wire, and leave the black in place. now, put the 5v red wire into where the 12v yellow wire was. 5v -> ground = 5v current. that's essentially what the other cable andy suggested does, i think. |

Yeah I guess you might wanna do the wire switch thing but if if you aren't comfortable with that resistors work great. I just say resistors because they don't cost much and they can be instantly undone.
I'm thinking a controller would be best with all those fans anyways. That's only if you think it gonna be too loud for you. Otherwise just get 3 of those 3 to 4 pin power adapters and run direct to the power supply. lol and might wanna get some 3 pin extension cables too because you might need the extra length. OK then just go with 3 or 4 of these http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=34_82&products_id=1369
and like I said may need some 3 pin cable extensions. I'd personally get all those fans off the motherboard especially if you have no need to control them and can just let 'um go at 100%. or a second option... A device like this. You'll still need with this 3pin cable extenders (plus they are sleeved and will look better). Those 2 options will work well it's just about what looks best and easier for you. I'd prolly still go with option 1. Edited by AndydViking - 26 Jul 2010 at 1:51pm |

Cool, if you need to when installing just post up some pics of what your having trouble with and we'll help ya.
Just curious what power supply you have and what case? Trying to envision your cable management. Edited by AndydViking - 26 Jul 2010 at 2:31pm |
