Topic: Adding fans to ODE's mesh side insertPosted: 12 Jul 2011 at 3:06pm |

Just received my ODE level 3 (it rocks!) and would like to add some side fans to cool off the 570s a bit more.
The ODE description says:
The Special Edition White 600T also includes a new custom side panel with a cutout for a window (pre-installed) or included mesh insert with room for up to four 120mm fans for even more outrageous cooling!

So you requested and have the mesh side panel that has spots for four 120mm fans?
if yes then get 4 of these: Nexus 120mm Real Silent case fan - D12SL-12 Black and white |

Correct. In fact it came with the clear panel installed and the mesh insert was in the box. Will look into those fans. Thank you, DST4ME.

My pleasure and good luck
those fans have white blades so that should also complement the case colors too
you can check it out here |

Thanks for the link, DST4ME. Good point about the colors, too. I'm going to buy these tonight.
Hopefully these 4 fans can plug right into the case fan controller (big white dial).
Hi desoto:
570 #1 tops out at 75C
570 #2 tops out at 86C
These temps don't seem bad, but they probably won't mind the additional fans.
Thank you,

I doubt you can connect them to the controller but I'm not familiar with the case's fan control too much.
you don't want load temps over 85c. looks like you need to adjust your fan profile for the gpu so that if it hits 80c you fan will hit 80% or 100%. use MSI Afterburner to do that now. |

Will check that out tonight as well. Thanks again, DST4ME.
Looks like MSI Afterburner can tweak many settings...the GPU fan speed should be the only thing I need to mess with, right?
Thank you,

No, I don't want to mess them up. LOL
Besides, SW:TOR should run just fine at 1920 x 1080 with 570 in SLI at stock settings.

Awesome! I'm going to move your thread to "Hardware Discussion" as this is not a thread asking for configuration advice on a new system.

adjusting the fan profile to be 1:1 up to like 70-75C will keep you much cooler. you can flatten the curve out once the fan is getting to loud.

Fans ordered and MSI fan control set up. Thanks, all!
New question: Card 1 (always cooler than Card 2) seems to have a lower voltage set on it. Is that normal? Anyone know what they should be set at? I'm guessing MSI can help with those settings, too, if they need changing. Thank you, Jawa |

ur idle voltages should be around .91. I thought that was a bit odd card 1 being cooler than card 2 usually its the other way around in my experience.

Relocating the HD cages can help give you unobstructed airflow to the cards.

card 1 idles at .91 and goes to 1.00V under load. card 2 never changes and is at 1.01V all the time. That's probably why it's always hotter. I'm looking through MSI and there is a voltage control I can unlock...is that what is needed to get card 2's voltage to mimic card 1? Or is there a better way? Thanks all for the help. Jawa |

leave the voltages alone. they don't need to be the same anyways.

The voltages will be left alone then.
Is it possible that card 2 has no idle mode? I would think both cards have identical properties.
How would one tell if card 2 has been downclocked? Maybe that's what gpu-z is for? I'll download that tonight, thanks RiceEatin2000GT.
Unless DS did anything special to the cards, they're both stock.
Thanks All,
Jawa

Is afterburner telling you the voltages or what are you using?

Am using the GPU Observer gadget for each card, which is where I see the voltage. The temps line up with what MSI Afterburner shows, so I'd think the voltage display is accurate, too. Just downloaded gpu-z and it said the same thing for the voltage.
I'm thinking that card 2 just doesn't like to idle. I noticed tonight in the NVIDIA control panel under PhyxX settings (using Auto-select) the PhysX is set to card 2. That is the only difference I can see between the cards. Could that be the reason it never idles? Question: Is it a bad thing to have the gadget, MSI, and now gpu-z monitor the GPUs? Thought I read something recently that said not to have a bunch of things monitoring your GPUs all at the same time (not sure why that would be, though). Thanks all! Jawa |

You only need one things to monitor.
did you enable voltage control in afterburner? so all three are showing the same thing right? Edited by DST4ME - 14 Jul 2011 at 1:36am |

No, I did not. Only thing I've done so far with MSI is the fan control (which is working very well).

This is what i figured was the issue(card 2 not down voloting). Are you running a multiple monitor set up or a high refresh rate panel? |

Fans arrived and have been installed. Cooled off the gpus by an average of 10C.
Turns out the Windows 7 GPU Observer gadget was confusing my cards, thinking 1 was 2 and 2 was 1. I've canned that gadget, instead using only MSI to keep an eye on things. Thank you all for your help and advice! |

if its still not down clocking this is a fairly common thing when you have a dual monitor set up |

Yes, but that's due in part also to MSI afterburner fan control, too, now that I'm thinking about it.
I set up the fan control at Rice's suggestion of 1:1 up to 70-75.
Before additional fans and fan control load temp was 86C.
After additional fans and fan control load temp can't seem to go above 69C. Still fairly quiet at load, too, since the GPU fans are only at 70%.

try not running the extra 4 fans and see what the gpu load temp is with just the afterburner adjustment.
I'm pretty sure its mainly due to the gpu's fan adjustment. |

Load as the ODE 3 was shipped = 86C
Load with afterburner adjustment only = 75C
Add the fans to that and load goes to 69C
Thank you, DST, Rice, and everyone else. Am learning a ton about this stuff from you all!
