Hey everyone. I just got the latest newegg promotion and saw that there was memory on sale and i'm planning to buy it. I was just wondering if it would work fine if I just added the 6gb to my current 3gb. This is the memory I have: System Memory: CLEARANCE HOT SELLER: 3GB DDR3 1333MHz Corsair XMS3
And this is the one I would like to add
So i'm just wondering if things will run smoothly if I add that to my current system. Thanks for the help.

6GB at best is what you will use, anything over that you won't even notice it, aka waste of your money.

TMan -
While we all appreciate DST he tends to have strong thoughts about what others with special needs really need. I will tell you that depending on your usage more memory than 6 Gigabytes is certainly useful and may even provide significant improvement. If you are like me and several other users here into home movies and editing your own digital movies, adding special effects and then creating your own DVD more memory than 6 Gigabytes is most certainly going to be welcome. If you do ray tracing or any other graphics or heavy duty sound work, more memory will be useful. If you play video games, you could definitely get away with just 6 Gigabytes for at least a year or two before games start requiring more memory. One thing to be sure of, do you have Vista x64? You do not mention it, but in order to use more than what you have, your installed operating system would need to be 64 Bit. Hope this helps, Dave ![]() |

@KB2, tman5890 during his purchase had stated that he uses his PC for playing wow and some other gaming, for this reason I said what I said above, if he did heavy editing then I would have told him that he can use 9GB of ram which is what he is talking about doing.
Just so you know why I said that ![]() otherwise you are 100% right.
good question tho I don't recall if did endup with 64bit or not, I think he did but I'm not sure. Edited by DST4ME - 09 Jun 2009 at 3:16pm |

Is Cool DST...
I just wanted to throw a little more detail into the thread in case any one else with the same question came along. Also on the off chance TMan has changed his usage patterns it does not hurt to give the full picture. Ova-n-Out ![]() Dave ![]() Edited by Kliebor2 - 09 Jun 2009 at 3:21pm |

Yes, I do run 64bit Windows Vista. And my main concern is if the ram will work with my computer. I mean I can use 6gb but for the price of the ram on Newegg I might as well use 9gb. Thank you guys for your inputs but I would like to know if the patriot ram would run with the corsair ram I currently have. Also, I would like to run a virtual server on my computer so more memory would help.

oh ya virtual server will put that ram to use, so go ahead, DS will need to reset your OC, so check with them first, and if you can see if the timing is the same that will help also.

Couldn't get in contact with DS today, seems they were extra busy...I decided to order the ram and hope for the best since it's on sale.

Hey guys. I received my new memory today and installed it. I'm currently performing Memtest86 on my memory so I can't take a screenshot of the timings but i'll add that later. My question is how can i setup the timings so they match? The patriot memory says 1.65v but the older corsair memory is 1.5v so there may be a timing issue. If anyone can explain to me how to solve that problem I would be very grateful!

CPU-z will show you your timings. |
