On my build I already have an 80g SSD and a 1TB HDD, but I am wanting to add another larger SSD. Is it possible and do I need to do anything extra other than installing it?

nope, just a sata cable, which should be in your extras box
and there should be a sata power port free from the cable powering your other HDDs, but if not, there will be a matching power cable in your extras box or coming from your PSU

OK... so here is another one ...
I have a Dual Solid State Hard Drive Hot Swap Bay.
SO I can just push my new SSD in (when I get it ordered Friday night) and clone the orig 1TB HDD and switch the order around in Bios for this SSD to boot up 1st. Then Delete the windows etc off of the 1TB HDD
If there is more please let me know. I know just enough to get myself in trouble but like to have second opinions that are helpful so that I may learn more.

clone guide 2.0 you can follow my clone guide here
after the clone is done, don't let windows boot, if both drives are connected one of their boot files will be gone, so once the clone is done, pc gets shutoff, you remove teh 1TB drive and see if you can boot into windows on ssd, once you realize ssd is working all fine and everything is right, then you connect the 1TB drive adn format it, and then add it as HDD2. so as you see since you have to do it that way, you don't need to change the bios boot. |

Ok. so since the Dual Solid State Hard Drive Hot Swap Bay is installed does the computer look at it as A: drive ?
When I boot I get "No drives installed" then it goes to the windows screen. Just wondering if its trying to find a drive in the swap bay before looking at the HDD.

I think if the cables for it are connected and no drive is present you get that at boot, not sure.

And another question just in case I totally mess up beyond repair.
Can I just pull the HDD 1TB drive and use my recovery CD from DS or do I have to use my copy of Windows 7Pro and get all the drivers etc on my own ?
I have backed up everything but... just trying to cover all bases and the outfield as well. Thanks.

you can use your recovery cd anytime you like.
remember we are not doing anything with the source drive, so make sure you don't select to format/delete the source drive. |

I was just curious if it was gonna geek because it was a diferent type OS
storage,size etc.
I think I will just disconnect the 1TB HDD & then run the recovery disc and install to the new SSD drive.

Ok.. problem....
I have no idea whats going on. I cant get windows to give the SSD a drive letter so I can format it.
I updated the SSD for its firmware update according to the manufactures PDF file directions and unpluged and reseated all connections. Also I tried to look into Device manager and all I get is this:
I am having 0 luck with trying to figure this out from here... any ideas ?

Right click My Computer and click Manage, on the left click Disk Management. Does it show up there, and allow you to format it?

That has got to be one of the ...weirdest ways to get to format.
BUT... THANK YOU SO MUCH !!!!
I just spent the better half of my night trying to figure out wth I was doing wrong. I undid everything I did in the PDF instructions from OCZ because I figured I messed something up somewhere... so maybe now it will behave... I really do appreciate the help. So glad I dont have to go to work in the morning... lol.
I think I need to get a guide book for dummies for Windows 7 now... Edited by OsandmanO - 23 Dec 2010 at 7:39am |

lol I see dragon got you, sorry I went to sleep, just saw your post, glad you got it worked out, always remember when you add a drive, you need to go to disk management and format and partition it there, then it will be recognized.
your device type needs to be achi not ide, you need to chagne that in the bios. Edited by DST4ME - 23 Dec 2010 at 11:06am |

Yeah, switching the BIOS to AHCI was the easy part and also changing the registry wasnt that big of deal, even though I really dont like messing with that.
I just couldnt figure out how to get the thing formatted in WIN 7.

I always set BIOS to RAID on all new installs of windows, so that way the OS is ready to go no matter what you add for HDD options later.

I didnt see that option... but I wasnt really looking for it either. I try to leave things alone if its running good. I just dont have the time to deal with crashes caused by my incompetence(sp?) of knowing what all that stuff does...
Like I said next time I get a chance its "WINDOWS 7 for Dummies" for me..
