Hey everyone. Although I have been lurking for awhile, this is my first post. I have been doing a lot of research in the last few months trying to narrow down exactly what I want. At first, I had my heart set on getting a ODE level 3. But, with 680 GPU out, I have since changed my mind.
My every intention is to get a Digital Storm computer. I am impressed by everything I have read about not only their hardware, but their professionalism and superior customer service. The only drawback I can see, is that I live in California and am subject to California sales tax. The competitors I am looking at are ------- and -----------. They are located out of state so my assumption is that I could get more computer for my money. Below I am going to list the 3 configurations that I came up with any I was curious to get your honest feedback with which computer would best serve for the money and the reasons for your decision. All of these came out to ~$2,950. I plan to use the computer mostly for gaming (Diablo3, Battlefield, mmorpg type games). But I also do some pretty serious adobe photoshop, premier CS5 editing. I currently have a 23" 1920x1080 resolution monitor. The first configuration was one posted by Bprat22: Config # 669790 Cost $ 2632 ($2,927 with tax and shipping) Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master 942 HAF X Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 2600K 3.40GHz (Unlocked CPU for Extreme Overclocking) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3 (Intel Z68 Chipset) (Features Intel Quick Sync Technology) System Memory: 8GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 1050W Corsair Pro Silver 1050HX (Dual/Triple/Quad SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Intel) (Model: 520 Series) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (1TB Western Digital Caviar (7200 RPM) (Model: Black Edition) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2GB (Includes PhysX) (EVGA) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: AIR: Stage 2: Noctua NH-D14 SE2011 Extreme Performance H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboard) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: FREE: Digital Storm T-Shirt - Black (Large) Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty Appreciate the help! -Brian Edited by Alex - 10 Apr 2012 at 2:48pm |

Hi VelocityM3.........Glad your giving DS a serious look. Alex will be by later to delete the competitors names.
I don't know alot about the service and parts of the others you listed, but I'm gonna show you a build that compares to the other's quad channel X79 paltforms, which you might need with adobe, CS5, etc.. My build you listed has the dual channel Z68 platform. Config # 674283 Cost $ 2684 Chassis Model: Special Deal Hot Seller - Cooler Master 942 HAF X Exterior Finish: - Standard Factory Finish Trim Accents: - Standard Factory Finish Processor: Intel Core i7 3820 3.6GHz (Turbo Mode up to 3.8GHz) (Quad Core) Motherboard: ASUS P9X79 DELUXE (Intel X79 Chipset) (Features USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s) System Memory: 16GB DDR3 1600MHz Digital Storm Certified Performance Series (Highly Recommended) (Hand Tested) Power Supply: 750W Corsair HX (Dual SLI Compatible) Expansion Bay: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 1: Operating System: 1x (120GB Solid State (By: Corsair) (Model: Force GT Series CSSD-F120GBGT-BK) (SATA 6Gbps) Set 1 Raid Options: - No Thanks Hard Drive Set 2: Multimedia\Data: 1x (500GB Seagate Barracuda (7200 RPM) (16MB Cache) Hard Drive Set 3: Backup\Misc.: - No Thanks Optical Drive 1: DVD-R/RW/CD-R/RW (DVD Writer 24x / CD-Writer 48x) Optical Drive 2: - No Thanks Internet Access: High Speed Network Port (Supports High-Speed Cable / DSL / Network Connections) Video Card: 1x NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 2GB (Includes PhysX) (EVGA) Add-on Card: - No Thanks Sound Card: Integrated Motherboard Audio Extreme Cooling: H20: Stage 2: Corsair H100 Liquid CPU Cooler (240mm Radiator) (Extreme-Performance Edition) H20 Tube Color:- Not Applicable, I do not have a FrostChill or Sub-Zero LCS Cooling System Selected Chassis Airflow: Standard Factory Chassis Fans Internal Lighting: - No Thanks Enhancements: - No Thanks Chassis Mods: - No Thanks Noise Reduction: - No Thanks LaserMark: - No Thanks Boost Processor: Stage 2: Overclock CPU 4.5GHz to 4.8GHz (Requires Pro or Deluxe Series Motherboard) Boost Video Card: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my video card(s) Boost Memory: - No Thanks, Please do not overclock my memory Boost OS: - No Thanks, Please do not tweak the services on the operating system Windows OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium (64-Bit Edition) Recovery Tools: Windows Recovery Toolkit (Bundled with Windows 7 CD) Virus Protection: - No Thanks Office: - No Thanks Game: - No Thanks Display: - No Thanks Surge Shield: - No Thanks Speakers: - No Thanks Keyboard: - No Thanks Mouse: - No Thanks External Storage: - No Thanks Exclusive T-Shirt: - No Thanks Priority Build: - No Thanks, Ship Within 5-15 Business Days After Order Is Successfully Processed Warranty: Life-time Expert Customer Care with 3 Year Limited Warranty The HafX case is the best case for air cooling, it's 230mm and 200mm fans large low rpm and move lots of air and stay quiet.. Even though the cpu is hydro cooled, it's still air for the chipset and gpu. The 750Hx psu is better than the 850tx. The Hx has a 7year warranty, the Tx a 5year warranty. The Hx is 90% efficient and the Tx 80% efficient. After the math.... HX=675Watts and TX 680Watts. The same but the HX has better warranty'. The H100 cpu cooler does a great job and is quiet on low and medium settings. Their coolers I don't know but I'll bet there not as good plus the H100 has 5 year warranty. I believe the rest of the parts are pretty comparable. But again I'm not sure of another's psu and case. I can't speak of the others overclocking but DS does it right and safe. Plus with DS you are getting excellant service, a forum with great support by other customers and DS employees. See what you think and I hope this helps you pick DS. I was rushing because my wife is asking "when you gonna be done" I knew I forgot something....The free T-Shirt. Edited by bprat22 - 10 Apr 2012 at 2:41pm |

Thanks for the quick reply Bprat22. My mistake about posting competitor names, I should have read the forum rules before posting.
I like that setup you just posted. Seems to be exactly what I would need for gaming and editing. The only thing I would change would be a 1TB second hard drive instead of 500gb. I need the extra room when working with videos. It would put me over the $3,000 mark but I'll just forfeit breakfast for the week, haha. Thanks for the help. |

I'm happy I saw the builds you posted before Alex came by. Gave us a chance to compare and build a comparable system . I and lots others have done the same thing and after close look at the details have chosen DS. Any questions let us know.

Last question: If I were to eventually upgrade to 2 x 680 GPUs. Would this build be optimal for such a upgrade? I know the 750 HX is dual SLI compatible.

Hi VelocityM3....The psu for sli would have to be the 1050HX. The 750HX might just make it, maybe, but as psu's age their efficiency lowers. The 1050HX gives you lots of headroom .
That build looks great. Edit...The ODE 3 with sli gtx570 only uses a 800W and they have no problems. But I just think play it safe. If psu can't keep up later alot of strange issues can arise, like freezing, reboots, etc.

Glad I waited to order! At this point, is there any reason for me not to go with the ODEV2 Level 4 with the 680 GPU. For the money, it seems like the best bet, no?

VelocityM3.......other than your earlier interest in sli, which I don' t believe this mobo can do, this lvl 4 is an awesome deal. For $2100 it' s untouchable.

Yah, I was going back and forth about SLI and whether I really would want to upgrade to a dual screen setup. I think I will be content with my 23" at max settings. I plan to play a lot of Diablo III when it comes out so I can't see the ODEV2 Level 4 having any issues with that. I can also keep in the back of my mind that I saved ~1,000 bucks that I can put into future upgrades down the road.
And just like that, I clicked the order button. |
