I have purchased three DS products since 2008. Two laptops and one Gaming Desktop. My question is can I do any more upgrades to my desktop rig that would make significant improvements or is it time to drop some serious $$$$ and purchase new again. Here are my current specs, I have updated a few things since 2008:
Chassis-Cool Master HAF 932 Power Supply- Corsair 1000w HX Processor-Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme QX9770 3.2 GHz (1600mhz FSB) (12MB Cache) Mother Board- nVvidia 790i Ultra Core 2 Quad )nForce 790i Ultra SLI) (DDR3 Only) Memory- 8GB DDR3 1600 MHzCorsair Dominator DHX Hard Drive- I updated: SSD Hard Drive a while back Video Cards- I updated: 2 (SLI) EVGA GTX 570 Running Windows 7 Can I put a new processor in this MB? Can I upgrade the Video cards again? Can I put additional Memory in? Thanks!!!!! |

About the only thing you could upgrade would be video cards. Perhaps a pair of GTX 770's. I don't think your system will bottleneck those.
You've got the top CPU for that mobo and RAM seems to be maxed as well.

Hi scotty16.... Depends a lot on your monitor. If its a single 23" at 1920x1080 or less then I think the sli, gtx 570s you have should still be excellent gaming. But, if things are slowing down and the dreaded lag has crept in, then a sli, gtx 760 or 770 will be a huge jump in gaming. A single gtx 770 almost matches your sli setup, maybe 20-25% less. Good luck. Edited by bprat22 - 15 Aug 2013 at 12:56pm |

Thank you folks for the advice! I think I will see if I can get another year or two out of this DS rig. It was the best of the best when I bought it and 5 years later still runs great!!!! I will go for the two GTX's in SLI.

I'm sure we'll have some awesome systems when you're ready to get a new one.
