Budget: ~$2,500
Usage: Primarily gaming. Won't be watching movies or using for other media purposes really. Saved Ticket #: 661289 Any suggestions on things I should add or edit? Based on other posts I've seen on this forum, I'm planning on asking DS to limit vcore to 1.4 or less. I think I've also seen the recommendation to ask to have a CoolerMaster MegaFlow 200 non-LED silent fan added to the top of the chassis and add the optional 120mm in the VGA Fan Duct. Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance! |

Hi ohd79. Welcome to the forum. You didn't t mention monitor size or resolution. Let's say 23" or less and 1920x1080 resolution. I would drop the ram from 16gb to 8 Gb, gaming can't use any more than that. Put the $$$ saved to the 1050HX psu, a better psu with. 7 year warranty. We like air coolers better, reliabilty is tops, like the Phantek tc14, but the H100 is good. I think the H100 mounts to the top so the added 200mm fan might not apply. You'd have to check with DS. The rest looks great, you even remembered your free t-shirt.
See what ya think and Good Luck If Alex sees this it should be moved to Configure Discussion. Edited by bprat22 - 01 Mar 2012 at 4:22pm |

bprat22,
Thanks for the welcome and the advice (my bad on posting in the wrong forum). Good point on the monitor size and resolution - I'll be using this with a 27" monitor and 1920x1080. Based on your feedback, I changed out the psu to the 1050HX and switched from the H100 (as an aside, is there any reason to have a preference between the Phantek tc14 and the Noctua D14?). Any other thoughts? Again, much appreciated! |

Hi ohd79...No problem with the post, just that sometimes you'll get more hits from us over there. We'll take care of things here just fine.
As far as the air coolers....The Noctua D14 is out of stock until mid-March, so DS added the Phantek TC14 for those that can't wait. The Phantek appears to be about the same size and performance, so either way is good. Just an FYI, the 3 year DS warranty is 1 year parts. If you don't extend it, remember to register your new gpu with EVGA on-line within 30 days for the 3 year, I think, manuf. warranty. Real nice rig. Great gaming with your resolution. Read the threads about Corsair liquid cooling here:
Corsair Forum/Cooling . . . and you probably won't go there.

That link is an eye opener. That's s why we recommend air coolers. A big block of metal fins has no pump or places for fans to plug into that fail. I love my A70
