This may not be the place for this and I apologize. However, I know many of you savvy techies may just be able to point out the obvious for me.

I have been experiencing lockups and screen freezes related to memory. Upon reboot after the lockups the MB displays a C1 code. The manual refers to C1 in 2 locations one as bad mem and the other as cmos batt. After playing with this for several months. This is me being stubborn and not wanting to return the pc. I have come to the realization that it appears to be a MB issue regarding slots 1 and 3. Any stick of memory in slot 3 and the pc will not even attempt to post and you get the C1 code. Any combination of 0,1 or 2,3 and you get the long mem beep and a C1 code.  Currently,  the only way to run is either a single 2G Dimm in 0,2,1 or 2x2GB in 0,2(but still freezes on occasion).  The current freeze is accompanied by a burst of static or hung note from the speakers. There hasn't been any over clocking on this machine since I first encountered the issue. Roughly 2 months ago. I have run memtest on both DIMMS multiple times with no errors as long as they are run in 0. I have also updated the bios as well as enabling P1 and P2 options from 1600MHz or greater memory. Updating the bios gave a false positive as the problem did not occur again until a week later while running in 0,1.

Quick question:

Is it the same RAM stick that fails, or one of the slots on the motherboard itself?

That's a common problem with EVGA's boards. I had 2 680i's with bad memory slots/memory controllers.

I received the 2 replacement DIMMs at around 1940 this afternoon. I removed the old stick that was in slot 0 and booted up. Everything booted ok and I played around a bit.  I inserted the second DIMM in and again got the same C1 code and long error beep. I reset the bios to default. I disabled the floppy and onboard audio. Also set the spectrum spread options all to disabled. I saved and rebooted again to the C1 code and long error beep. I then removed the second DIMM and moved it to slot 0. Thus, again, running with a single DIMM. Everything booted fine and is still running ok.

i.e. It looks like the motherboard. It was too late to call I tried. So if ya see this before I get a hold of ya go ahead and send out a replacement motherboard. I will hold onto the memory until we see if the replacement mobo fixes the problem.  I have 30days before its charged.

If the motherboard fixes the issue I may just decide to keep the momory and you can charge for it then. If it doesn't I will be returning the replacement parts as well as the PC so that the problem can be tracked and determined.
