Hi everyone,
After alot of thought and 'googling', I have settled on ds for my new pc. I would like some advice on this setup, anything is welcome. I have not yet included mouse and keyboard, and the monitor is separate from this budget (the second monitor for now will be my current 22 inch one). Budget- 2000-2800 Usage- I will use this pc for gaming, though I don't need the absolute highest settings, and all of the general purpose home pc stuff, family pictures/videos, documents, music, etc. Other- I live in an older house where dust is an above average concern. Monitors- I will use a 2 monitor setup, though only gaming on one, most likely 2 24-inch. In general, I want a fairly robust pc for gaming and general use that is fairly upgradeable. Right now I want to stick with a single gpu setup, while leaving the possibility of sli in the future. Hi BigJ....you have a very nice build. But, I would make some changes. Change mobo to Deluxe. Keep RAM at 8 Gb, it's s all gaming can use. Keep the 570, the 580 is expensive for little increase in performance, change psu to 1050hx, better for sli and the HX series has 7 year warranty and has good reputation. Also consider the A70 cooler, it works great with that cpu and is very reliable. With the 2600k and A70 cooler increase Cpu overvlock to stage 2. It can more than handle it. I can't t do a re- configure right now but make those changes and see what ya think. SSD are always recommended if budget allows. Much faster loads, even in gaming. For maxed out gaming at 1920x1080 on 24" monitor a sli is needed. For high gaming a single will do fine. If budget is tight take alook at ODE3, sli setup at great price, but custom configure does have some better parts.
Good luck Edited by bprat22 - 19 Feb 2012 at 4:27pm |

Thanks for the input!
I assumed the z68 chipset motherboard would be better for future upgradeability, is this the case? For the gpu, I was hoping the 570 would be good for awhile, and by then I could look at the 600 series, though I may upgrade the psu to keep sli an option. I'm still considering the cooling/oc options... |

The new Nvidia's coming out are still a big unknown, but rumor is they'll be a big step up. Not a bad thought, staying with single 570 and going gtx6xxx in a few months. The cooling is not bad either way. I like air cooler mainly because there isn't much to go wrong, just a block of metal fins and reliable fans. But, the H series take up less room. Your call. Oc for sure, either way, I would go stage 2. It's like a horsepower increase in your car and is safe.

I forgot to answer about the mobo...I wasn't comparing the p67 to z68 platform just wondering if the Maximus Extreme for another $150 was needed. You would have to compare features and see if it's worth it for you.. Most would say no, but your call.
The most expensive part isn't usually what is needed. The P8Z68 V-Pro would in most cases serve you well for alot less. Mobo's are a tough call, with so many features. Very individual. |
