Topic: Advice on Monitor ResolutionsPosted: 10 May 2009 at 2:39pm |

Hi all... so my new toy should arrive this week. I have narrowed my monitor choice down to to either the Dell G2210 or the G2410. I have attached the Cnet reviews for both:
Now my feeling is that I can not go wrong on either. Here my questions:
My new toy has the GTX 285 2G and I will use it to play WoW!
1) Is there much of a difference between 1,920x1,080 and 1,680x1,050?
2) Would the GTX 285 2G be enough for the 1,920x1,080?
3) The monitor will be 28 inches away... would the 24 inch monitor be bad for ones eyes having that close? In that case the 22 inch may cause less eye strain?
4) What are people general opinions on the two monitors above?
Thank you all so much for your helpful help. Edited by Chief - 10 May 2009 at 3:01pm |

since wow doesn't utilize sli, from what couple of people here have said, the higher resolution will mean less performance for a single card, tho both 285 and 275 perform the same practically.
you are wasting your money going with that 285 2GB you can go with a 275 GTX and not notice the difference at all minus your the missing extra money. the difference between the 275 and 285 in wow is like 1 or 2 fps difference and you gonna pay more then $100 for each of those 2 fps. in short go with the 275 GTX and save your self the money 1. 1900 x 1200 is more clear and better graphics. 2. above I mention why 285 is a waste over 275 and unless wow supports sli, another card will be pointless, now Nvidia has wow listed as supporting sli but some members with sli have reported no gain. 3. I don't' know the answer to this one. 4. instead of cnet reviews (not worth crap if you ask me) and asking us why don't you head over to dell and read what the customers that have the monitor think

Well it is too late on 285 2G. I got a great price on the toy anyway. $2,450.
So are you saying that I should go with the lower res. monitor?

Na your 285 or a 275 should pull 60fps at 1900 x 1200 in wow. and that is all you need for smooth game play, this would be with 4x msaa 16:1 af.

"the would be with 4x msaa 16:1 af"
What does that mean? Thanks.
Also I am seeing there are 2 ms and 5 ms response rate. I assume the faster response rate is best. Hmm then I will judge the product based on costumer reviews on the company web site.

those are modes and settings in the game.
response time is a gimmick, there is no real way of measuring it, and if one was to measure they should measure white to white not black to black or grey to grey, but they do so cause it has a lower number so it fools the customer into thinking its faster then it actually is. now, not that it matters but are those response times both btb or gtg? |

I'm sorry I'm not great with monitors, there is a thread pinned on the hardware section with monitor suggestions, why don't you have a look there, the reviews on dell's site about that 22inch are not very great

Don't worry much about the response time. Anything under 16 ms is good.
