Hello everyone, new to the forum. This is my first time using Digital Storm and very excited about getting a new computer. Below is my possible build. Would like any input, advice, or feedback. I will be using the computer in the following ways. Surfing the internet, using Adobe Lightroom 4.0 (editing RAW files), using Adobe Premiere Elements 10 version for video editing (home movies using a Sony HDR-CX700V camera), playing FSX with addons like Orbx scenery and airports, playing first person action games like Medal of Honor, Call of Duty, Battlefield 3, etc. I not a hardcore gamer, but would like to try the above mentioned titles. Currently have 2 ViewSonic monitors (VX2250 models) running at 1920 by 1080. May want to add a 3rd monitor and use the Matrix Triple Head to Go (digital version) for playing FSX. Any comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi again, thought of some questions. Is selecting the ASUS Sabertooth motherboard offer any advantages? Would you recommend having the non-crucial parts of the OS disabled? and difference between the free option and the $35 option. Any comments on the after market fans and using the noise suppression option? Does anyone have the NZXT Sentry LX fan controller and do you like it? Last, anyone know much about the Corsair Airflow Pro fan and LED indicator for your RAM? Was thinking about adding that. Concerned about it fitting with an aftermarket cpu cooler. Thanks.

What Asangard said.Big%20Smile   Exactly, without knowing the budget it is tough to put something together.
Also, for Lightroom and other video editing apps you might want to look at the X79 platform.  It's quad channel memory offers a signifant boost in editing, rendering, etc.

For a multi monitor setup with high graphic settings and decent fps, you're really looking at at least a sli, 2x gtx 670 setup.  FSX can be very demanding.   Maybe drop one of the SSD and lower the other to 180GB to put the money towards the added video card.

Start with Dreadnought, level 3 and go from their.

Let us know.

Hello, I'm sorry I didn't mention the price. When I put the build together, it told me what it was going to cost. The current build is $3,773. It's within my budget. I can spend a little more if I need to. I'm very aware of the demands of FSX and know it's history and it's hardware requirements. Even this build won't allow FSX to run all out. That won't happen until you see cpus running at 6 to 8 GHz. I'm using one SSD just for the OS and apps. The second one is for FSX and FS9 only. The HDD will be my data drive. Had considered the X79 platform but thought it might be too expensive and or wondering about upgrade paths. Hope this helps. One other thing, the Matrix triple head to go tricks the video card into thinking you are using just one monitor even though you are using 3. I have used the analog version a few years ago and it was awesome when playing FS9. If you haven't heard about it, check it out on you tube and other places.

One more thing I forgot to mention. I may add a 2nd GTX 680 in the future if I feel I need it. Also, I will be looking at the ivy bridge - e when it comes out next year. I'm a little confused on the sockets. 1155 vs 2011. Does ivy bridge fit both? What about hexacore ivy bridge when they come out?

Sandy Bridge & Ivy Bridge use socket 1155.  Sandy Bridge-E uses socket 2011.  The Ivy Bridge-E is suppose to be released in the 4th quarter this year and is reported to use socket 2011 and the X79 chip set.

I hope this helps.

Skyhawk51.........The config you posted is a great build.  You obviously know your needs more than us for storage, etc.

I still say that for a 2 or 3 monitor setup, the single gtx680 is gonna work  good, but either your fps will be in the 30-40's or settings will have to be turned down.  Doesn't mean it won't game great, but its all about expectations.  Some want high settings and fps 60+ or close to it.  With or without the Matrix triple head, your gpu still needs to render a 5760x1080 setup if you went triple monitor at 1920x 1080.

Just for another idea, here's a X79 platform for your Lightroom, etc and a sli, 2x gtx 670 which will give you alot better performance.

The gtx 670 is $250 a card cheaper than the 680 and the performance is almost the same, within 5-10%.

The HafX case is the best for ar cooled systems.  The 600T is also very good with its 2x 200mm fans.

The cpu cooler , the 240mm Vortex, is what I believe DS will want for the X79.  I would however prefer your pick of the D14.  At stage 1 oc they might do D14.

Check it out, and either this or your config will be great.  Yours does allow for a secong 680 very easily.  If you don't need built in WiFi, the Sabertooth mobo might do it.  It has a better warranty and is a bit cheaper.

Good LuckBig%20Smile

EDIT....since posting this I read up a bit on the Matrox tripleHead To Go unit.  I'm still somewhat confused and new to it, but it seems that it's limitation is three monitors at 1280x1024 resolution for a 3 monitor setup of 3840x1024.  What is needed for a 30" monitor at 2560x1200 is what is needed for this.  If that's true then a single gtx 680 or 670 will play alot of games on High settings in the 60 fps average range and some like Metro2033 and Crysis warhead in the 40's fps.  Of course lowering the settings to medium will work alot better in fps.

With today's cards able to play across 3 monitors at higher resolution with nividia surround, I don't see the point of the Matrox, but I really haven't spend alot time with it.  Just me thinking out loud. Big%20Smile

Thanks to all who responded. The matrix triple head to go comes in different versions. The digital version can be used with 1920 x 1080 monitors for a 5760x1080 setup using one card. The top version can use the thunderbolt. It works great with microsoft flight simulator. It puts less stress on the video card. The card doesn't see three monitors. Just one. Haven't bought yet. Anyone else have some feedback or advice, please post. Thanks.
